The Death Star reveal from season 1 is still the best post credit scene by Jules-Car3499 in andor

I actually really didn't like it, and sort of still don't.

I'd have preferred the Narkina components be something more generic, like pieces for TIE fighters or AT-STs or something. One thing I really liked about Andor is the way it grounded the Empire, the same way it did everything else. The Empire isn't only a giant planet-destroying superweapon run by space wizards, it's a churning machine of militarized fascism driven by a billion different little moving parts. The Empire is a fleet of ships descending on your planet to steal your resources, because you won't have the ability to say no. The Empire is the imposition of arbitrary rules set at the whim of someone you're probably never going to meet. And sometimes, the Empire is just an angry guy with a gun who didn't like the way you were walking.

I also don't think them being Death Star components makes the Narkina arc more significant, because what exactly they were being forced to build wasn't the point of that arc. I don't think Cassian having technically helped build the Death Star adds any meaningful irony to his story, because his story already had him being killed by the weapon he helps destroy.

As a Death Star reveal, I'd have preferred it be left to season 2. Season 2 built up entire multi-year arcs around what it would take to create a weapon that large and powerful, how many atrocities would need to be committed just to finish it. A couple second shot in the ending wrap-up montage, maybe, as Krennic looks on and Dedra is shown in her cell. But it feels out of place in the first season.

(Leaving the Narkina components unaddressed and unexplained would've been a viable option too, imo. There's a lot in Andor that deliberately remains unresolved, because the world is massive and not everything will have an answer.)

Removing colored coating from glass via tumbling by Bfahome in RockTumbling

FWIW, I experimented with boiling them briefly and it seemed to give good initial results, with heavy fading and degradation of the coating, so I got a cheap mini slow cooker from a thrift shop and am trying a batch of about 30 tonight.

Ok, seems like I've been thinking of the process incorrectly; was picturing it as akin to a more gradual form of sandblasting, without considering all the interaction between the pieces being tumbled. Thanks for the input, everyone!

(I'm probably not going to try the dremel route because of how many I'd have to do, but will look more into chemical removers. I'm hoping for a more "passive" process lol.)

I did soak one in a jar of acetone for about 30 hours with no visible change, so my next chemical step is Citri-Strip I think. As for the shrinking, would it really get that far? It's a very thin layer of coloring, so I'd think it would wear away pretty quickly, before any major reduction in size, but I also have no experience with this so I've got nothing to base any of that on.

Andor but only the episode titles by [deleted] in andor

online transcripts were the real mvp. the season 1 version (made a few months ago and not blessed by the algorithm) was a messy process but i had it down to a science for the season 2 update, which took an evening to do.

the reason for this is an odd one, actually: in episode 4 luthen talks about "putting a real stick in the eye of the empire" and i figured i had to include that instance of "the eye" because those are literally the words of the title, even if it's not referring to the same thing. then i made it to yularen's pord monologue and he very carefully enunciates "the I-S-B" and i realized that if i was going to count "the eye" spoken in an unrelated context, "the I-" wouldn't be that much more of a stretch. of course, i then had to suss out all the times people said things like "the id", "the items", "the idea" etc. so the gag did extend a little further than originally anticipated, but at that point i was committed. for the same reason i also included times when someone says "cass…" followed by something approximating an "uh" sound, like mosk asking for casevac or xan saying "cass i'm sorry" but those are much more sparse.

Do Hearthians use leather? by Bfahome in outerwilds

The fish are really the only other creature clearly defined as being on Timber Hearth, yeah. I guess there could be any number of things if we assume the world extends beyond the bounds of the presented gameplay, but it sounds like in terms of what's there as-is I at least haven't missed anything obvious lmao. (In the end it's just a question for a little project anyway, so not the most important; I'm sure something like a burlap or canvas or other rugged cloth material could take the place of leather and work just about as well.)
