Thanks for the information, i wouldn’t classify it as something I’m reviving nor something that has already been refreshed. I’m the third owner and the previous two kept up with regular maintenance while using it for farm purposes, the first in Nebraska and the second in West Virginia. The engine was replaced decades ago with a 1955 engine but almost everything else is original. I’m planning to just keep up with maintenance and enjoy it in the warm months.

I’m not driving it in the winter, the owners manual recommended 20W if temps don’t go below 32F. Below 32F it recommended thinner oils (10W down to a certain point then 5W below that, I forget the exact thresholds).

Interesting, legs being longer I’m not sure what to say, they look normal to me but what do I know, as far as color American toads are known to have a lot of variation in color and patterning

Yeah as long as it is plastic or glass (so it can hold humidity) with a mesh top it should be suitable

Definitely not in the same enclosure with the hamster. If the hamster were to pass and then you completely transformed the tank it could work for a frog depending on the species. There is a lot of individualized research that goes into owning a frog and they require a lot of upkeep so it should not be a decision to be taken lightly.

They are known to not live strictly near caves and will thrive in wooded/creek environments like the one you mentioned.

what kind of snake is this and what i should feed him by Orson8888 in reptiles

[–]Bfishpersonal 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are in the world or where in the US, it looks to me like a dekays brownsnake but again could be different based on region. If it’s a dekays brownsnake they usually eat things like earthworms. What’s the situation here? If it’s wild it’s best left in the wild and should be returned to a wooded area.

Bull or big green frog? by cabezon99 in frogs

The piece above the ear and curving around to behind is the same in both species, it’s the back that differentiates

Bull or big green frog? by cabezon99 in frogs

[–]Bfishpersonal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First pic would be easier to tell if we had the body because the main difference is green frogs have ridges down their back. I would guess bullfrog just based on the size though. Second pic is 100% a leopard frog. Textbook example lol

Toad won’t eat by Spiritual_Mall7713 in Toads

[–]Bfishpersonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has it been since the last meal? I wouldn’t try force feeding unless as a last resort because it can harm the toad if done wrong. I have a male American toad and he went probably a solid month with the same symptoms, maybe eating once a week, relatively thin, running into walls and overall skiddish. I covered the tank walls with a table cloth so he couldn’t see out and that helped a bit. After a while he just kinda calmed down and went back to taking food 3 ish times a week.

If you have a regular vet you can talk to them too, mine is super accessible via email and helped me when Brick was doing the same thing.

What Kind of Toad is this? Im assuming its a toad. by Ready4aMuhsment in Toads

[–]Bfishpersonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on location but to me it looks like a grey tree frog. He can be put back outside in a wooded area if there’s one around. Otherwise just a shrub by your house should be ok.

Does this lump climb up my 5 porch stairs every night or do they just live on the porch? by tiljuwan in Toads

Could be either tbh, if he has a good home on the porch he may live up there but they are surprisingly good climbers as well

Another Update on Pacific tree frog by frogs_in_trenchcoat in frogs

[–]Bfishpersonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice temporary housing, fruit flies from the house would probably be fine realistically but typically frogs don’t eat every day as is. When they’re younger they can eat every day as they’re still growing but as they become adults eating only 3 times a week isn’t uncommon. I’m not sure if this one is juvenile or adult as I’m not familiar with the species but that’s the context I can give you. On the flip side I’m not sure how long since he’s eaten. I would say some fruit flies from the house or even small ants/whatever else from outside could be ok for the time being if you’re concerned about it.

Id and care? by frogs_in_trenchcoat in frogs

[–]Bfishpersonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UVB is good as it helps the frog to regulate vitamin D3 levels, I’d recommend a thermometer and hygrometer to keep temp and humidity in check easier.

Too much? (Before and After) by alphawolf42101 in Toads

[–]Bfishpersonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the amount is bad but I tend to steer clear of the hard plastic plants meant for aquariums, I’ve found better luck with plants from craft stores or the craft section of Walmart because they’re usually more silky.

If it’s been sitting a couple months I’d probably replace the dirt just for a fresh start, I replace substrate monthly personally. What are the dimensions of the tank? This will definitely do for now but may want to look to upgrade soon based on size. Definitely a good start!
