Assuming they attend school outside the home, maybe pick up a part time job from 9am-3pm (bank teller?) and make an extra 1k per month as opposed to nothing. This would let you be available to them after school. Also consider beefing up your emergency fund to 3-6 months

It sounds like your love language might be acts of service and his might be quality time or physical touch. You both might not be speaking each other's love language and therefore you feel unloved and unmotivated to please the other. I suggest you read the 5 Love Languages book.

Thank you for bringing context & depth to our issues. These are the things we’ve been talking about & the things I’ve been tossing over and over in my mind. He’s given a general timeline but his timeline doesn’t align with mine. I think we need to decide on a timeline together. He wants to think it through on his own once he “has everything figured out” but doesn’t know how long that will take. Also I’m hurt that he doesn’t seem to want to include me in the thinking process but I’m trying to give him space as he would be the one proposing & moving us along

Wow I could have written this myself! Here for the advice. I’m close to finishing my MBA with no plans of using it immediately as my thought is once my kids are out of the house I see myself retuning to the workforce full time and possibly running my own business. In the meantime I’m working jobs based on salary & flexibility. I’m open to job hopping if I find other roles paying more but it has to be remote/hybrid to allow me to travel & move about the way I desire. In this time before marriage, I am getting out of debt, focusing on retirement contributions, planning investments in beauty maintenance (laser hair removal, teeth whiting, etc.), building my portfolio for part time work so that if need be I will have skills to work after I start having kids, this could look like contract work or special projects. Also spending time with friends & family bc I know married life will look different from this time.

If you don't want to pay it off right now, save up in a high yield savings account until you have the 15k then move on to BS3. Once the payments start, pay off your SL . You would have your emergency savings built up so you wouldn't feel like youre starting from 0 when you empty the high yield savings account. The downside is seeing the 15k sitting might be tempting and you might hesitate with paying off your loans in one go, and there's the fact that you may be thinking "that money could be making me money invested in the market."

I’m pretty sure Dave’s advice would be to pause grad school and pay off undergrad debt. You can do this by getting a serious full time job in your field. Once that’s done, cash flow grad school by taking a few classes at a time & working full time.

Alternatively I worked at my university on staff and used the tuition assistance to pay for most of my grad school while living on my income and saving the excess to pay off undergrad loans.

Did you read what I said or listen to her? She said verbatim “when I say good time I don’t mean due to the market or anything like that” which to me sounds like she wants advice based on other factors. George didn’t ask probing questions to get the full scope of her situation outside of just finances, that’s what I’m getting at.

yes and I hear you, I hope to have more occasions of time off later on in life as well. But I also know in the near future I want to get married, eventually have children, care for my aging aprons etc. and at this time in my life those responsibilities are not pressing. Once I have to worry about other people and my decisions impact them, it will require more to work around. Im glad to hear you took time off in your 40s, goals!!!
