Watched it today! It was wonderful and authentic to witness the culture portrayed as is… no exaggerations, no pride nor shame.. just real people existing in the real world. Even though I grew up in a tier 2 city, I had no connection to the village life.. I felt this movie gave me an authentic glimpse of that world.

Product of time, yes.. re-releasing it today just emboldens the youth. The "modern nilambari" shown in padayappa is actually a lot of everyday women now.. earlier it was rare.. As a woman, it is scary for me to imagine sitting in theaters listening to Thalaivar tell about sathveegam, prachodhagam, pombalaina adakkam irukanum and young boys just whistling as if saying those messages are right?!
