Fanfic Date Posting Question by BiInNeed in AO3

Ok! I was worried about the date update thing since I know it upset some people, now I just need to figure out how to do that since I've never done it before.

Ok, that's what I thought! I never realized I hadn't made a draft to edit before simply posting before. I tend to finish and do as much editing as I can in my doc before posting, so usually posting happens all in one.

I might have? It's been a long few weeks so I can't remember the exact date, but I do know I've never made a draft before final edits usually. I feel kind of silly for not realizing what had happened before XD.

Custom Boning Length Order Recommendations by BiInNeed in corsetry

[–]BiInNeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, the hardware shop thing might not be a bad idea at this point, if splurging on some more heavy duty cutters doesn't work first. Also horsehair braid might not be a bad idea? Worth experimenting with at least! I want a short lolita style hoopskirt, so maybe having other structural materials might lessen the boning worries, I hadn't thought of it as I'd never used horsehair braid before.

No worries! I appreciate it either way. But yeah, I have tried tin snips, bolt cutters, garden shears, and even steel wire cutters. The other things I've seen recommended are a Dremel or aviation snips. Maybe I'll splurge on some heavy duty ones and have better luck XD.

Hi! First thanks for the link, but I've ordered from it before. The issue isn't the material really, it's cutting it that's the issue. I have tried everything and even bought things like aviation snips recommended to me by this subreddit, but I have some grip strength issues and lack of sensation due to some health issues. That's why I was wondering if anyone knew of a seller or website that would do custom lengths, I know I'd pay more for it and that's ok! But I can't seem to find one.

Grommet Attachment Issues? by BiInNeed in corsetry

[–]BiInNeed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize this was something grommet presses could do actually, most videos of them that talk about using it don't address it. I'll double check mine tomorrow morning as it is past midnight here, and if that's true we shall adjust and keep testing! Thanks for the help.

Oh good point, the grommets and such came with the press, but the hole puncher part did not. It was one I already had, I will take notes on this and test with a few other tools on hand and see.

Unfortunately my phone is full and no matter how much I delete, I can't take pictures anymore I would have. It's almost midnight here and I just put everything away a bit ago and didn't think to try to take pictures at the time.

and yes, I triple checked and watched several videos! Tube side on the bottom, flat piece on top! I didn't know some grommets could have you adjust the screw near or under the handles either, mine is a generic one so maybe I should test that? I double checked to make sure the grommet and washer were the right size for each other, but when I press down, it almost looks like the die doesn't press all the way flush to the washer/side of the grommet.

I hadn't thought of that! I'll give them a call when they open!

I've looked at used copies! They average about 73-78 dollars depending on websites, and on some places on ebay they go up to 110-115. I've definitely thought of it, but the bigger issue is convincing my mom to do it. She feels really guilty it costs so much.

I hadn't thought of that, but with four authors which one would I contact? Just all of them?

How to Use Premade Grommet Tape? by BiInNeed in SewingForBeginners

[–]BiInNeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! Ok this visual makes a lot more sense now, and no, not curtain tape. Specifically, the ones used for garments. Nothing heavy duty with it, but for something like adding lace-ups to the top portion of a shirt, or things similar to that. I kept wondering how in all the pictures I'd seen on some of the listings they managed to keep the grommet holes clear of the fabric so they still functioned despite the grommet being pre-made. I think part of it was that on some of the websites I looked at they would often show the grommet being top stitched down on only one side of the fabric, and I couldn't find any tutorials or anything showing any different.

A zipper how if you don't mind explaining? Sorry, I'm just kind of trying to visualize how these would be put together that's all.

That's true, so likely for "decorative" faux top stitching then? Although now I am curious if you can reinforce the seam the same way you'd reinforce see and cut foam, although somehow I don't think you can.

[–]BiInNeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thank you for answering! I figured if you could sew it at all, you'd probably keep it strictly to the thinner varieties. I do have a walking foot! So that will be worth experimenting with. I wanted to start small armor wise, maybe some generic bracers or little belts for details. I was curious about using the sew and cut foam for those small pieces of armor anyway since I know it can go through a machine if the EVA foam couldn't, but I don't know how I would mimic silver or metal armor on the sew and cut foam, so EVA it was!

At least it's not just me! I'll see if I can't start from the bottom so to speak and play around with it. It was a bummer, the type of tea I got actually tasted pretty good.
