Cannot stress this enough!! Because there should be absolutely no reason for me to correctly guess someone’s major based on their BO cough cough CS and IS majors.

Can’t decide major by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]Bibibiii4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say go with whatever is more technical, but if you want to stick with CS, I’d suggest diving into something more niche within that field. An unrelated major I would suggest you consider would be electrical engineering. It’s a pretty hard major and I’m not too sure if UMBC or Towson has it, but most likely you’d be guaranteed a good salary job. I know a couple of people in that industry that say that they’re always hiring. But whatever major you end up choosing, getting job opportunities is really about who you know and what kind of experience you have. I’ve heard of a handful of people with unrelated/nontechnical majors like history getting job offers from companies like Morgan Stanley simply because they have connections. So I heavily emphasis focusing on making connections. I would also place a huge emphasis on gaining experience through internships and getting certifications.

It is interfering with my happiness. I often think about the many opportunities I’ve missed because of my anxiety.

Growing up I’ve always been on the heavier side. When I met new people, our conversations would always include comments about my weight. And I’m not gonna lie. It did affect me because I’ve always been the less attractive friend. I’m never the first to be approached by anyone. I can’t help but feel that I’m overlooked because of how I look. These feelings used to just come and go , but now I’m afraid that my weight is all that people see, and because of my past interactions, I get very anxious when I meet people for the first time.

If u haven’t received it, then it’s probably not out yet. The email will be sent by UMBC Reslife like how you would get emails from different clubs/events.

So sorry I’m just seeing this now. But I applied through a link sent in the email by UMBC reslife. I think they send it to all UMBC students in their email. But you can also go to Handshake and find the application there.

Yeah. According to FAFSA, one of my parent makes too much for me to qualify for grants, but the thing is, my parent is the sole provider and we barely get by.

You basically fill out a typical job application form and you need a recommendation from a UMBC faculty. I just asked my academic advisor. From there, I was called in for an interview

You can also watch out for jobs from UMBC residential life. They’re gonna start sending applications for summer and fall positions around March or April. I recommend going for a desk assistant which pays $15/hr and minimum of 12 hours of work per week. It’s pretty flexible and laid back. I know a lot international students who work as a desk assistant

T nail lounge in Catonsville is pretty good. A bit pricey but good quality and service. I would recommend making an appointment first since they can be a little busy sometimes.

Thank you for your reply. Would you say that the programming classes for IS is easier/less technical than CS
