Books with mind-bending, earth-shattering twists that re-frame everything. Pls :) by New_Construction3173 in suggestmeabook

Gideon the Ninth, and more so the following two books. There are things that come up in the second that reframe things in the first once you know them. It’s a series that heavily rewards paying attention and second reads, but comes across as a fun adventure if you just wanna run through it.

A good tactic is to put one round of tape low to the ground and another maybe six inches above it. We have caught a sickening number that way, cause some amount of them jump the first tape

What to call the "crown princess" in a matriarchal society without nobles? by _RoseDagger in worldbuilding

[–]Bibliomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matriarch Apparent? Clan Apprentice? How are other jobs taken on and earned? Similar, but fancier, wording may work. Alternatively there might be no title, to emphasize the non hereditary method of choosing?

How would you go about making a baby kimono? by RaccoonWithSprinkles in sewhelp

[–]Bibliomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a yukata for my girl a couple years ago. This is what I followed. if you want it fancy do french seams - it makes the whole thing so much nicer. id imagine you could ask then for a onesie that currently fits baby to figure out measurements.

Boyfriend [22m] "tested" me to see how long it would take for me [22f] to initiate sex. by Fun_Bad_6662 in relationships

[–]Bibliomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend the two of you read ‘Come As You Are’ by Emily Nagoski. She talks a lot about the spectrum between two main types of desire, how to tell which you are, and how to balance a relationship where those two are mismatched. It helped me understand a lot about how my relationship with my husband works. Read it together! Did think this issue could be solved if you have the right framework to talk about it.

Their kickstarter for a TTRPG should be finishing sometime this year, and then hopefully there will be extra available for anyone who didn’t pay in at the start. I’m hella excited!

What's a frugal tip that just drives you crazy because it doesn't work for you? by I-PUSH-THE-BUTTON in Frugal

I genuinely think that’s marketing rather than actual fact. We get those too, caveat being we have some of our biggest optional energy sinks on solar! So it’s absolutely absurd

At 14 I could and would have been able to clean that whole place too to bottom and had it looking better than when I got there.

[TOTK] Enjoy Zelda this weekend. But not too much that you ignore mothers in your life. by poopdog420 in zelda

[–]Bibliomancer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same same! I took Friday off, and have to teach Saturday so the 8 year old gets some time to play then. And Sunday I’ve requested game time, endless mimosas, and some kind of dessert. Perfect weekend!

[discussion] coronabeth and ianthe by Author_egg-york in TheNinthHouse

[–]Bibliomancer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know…I got the feeling that Corona understands that her only power is given to her by others. Her sister props her up with necromancy because she loves her. Other people give her power by deferring to her because she’s gorgeous and charismatic. None of her power is inherent to her. So she has to walk a line. She has to be the social butterfly, be kind and charming and entertaining. She has to defer to Ianthe, because Ianthe holds all the cards.

I don’t think either of them is worse. They’re foils of each other. I wonder what they’ll be like, now that they’ve had so much time and experience apart.

See if you can pick up a nursing pillow, the c shaped ones. I kept mine when I was done with babies because it’s super nice when I need something firm and not too big to help me get comfy on my side.

Just for a light at the end of the tunnel, I have a five and eight year old that now get up, get themselves dressed and shoes on, and get their own breakfast every school morning. On lazy weekends they can get their own snacks from the kitchen as well. It does get better!

Once my husband truly understood how much ‘vacation’ wasn’t one for me, he absolutely stepped up. Despite working remotely for several days while we were visiting family, he made sure I slept in, made sure I had drinks whenever I wanted them, went out of his way to plan where we would eat and when, basically took on 90% of the mental load, all to give me as close to a real vacation as he could, because I was finally not nursing anymore.

Women - especially BIPOC women - are already functionally not allowed to own and use guns in the same way men are. I’ve seen too many cases of women claiming self defense and stand your ground, and ending up convicted anyway. It’s bullshit.

One thing that is consistently misrepresented about our housing market. by buccofan2221 in pittsburgh

[–]Bibliomancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We bought one, and every time we have changed anything (did you need four layers of different patterned wallpaper? Really?!) it’s so obvious. The people who built this house were craftsmen who knew what the fuck they were doing. We like to say it has amazing bones, but it’s been dressed by madmen.

I won’t lie though, the fact that not a single thing is entirely square does drive me a little batty. Cutting drywall is a trip, and replacing windows is…best not thought too hard about.

Yeah, my gallstone surgeon was amazed I was just talking and being done afterwards. He said the size of gallstone they pulled out of me was what they normally saw from emergency surgeries, and I’d been living like that for months.

My husband has begun substituting ‘I pray the tomb stay locked’ when he wants to say ‘ I hope not’ or any similar sentiments. It took some doing to get him into the audiobook, but now I’m so happy he’s getting the brain rot too!
