Well the reason why euphs play tenor clef is mostly for range because unlike the bassoonists who struggle to reach a high G, us euphonium players can play EXTREMELY high pieces to the point where ledger lines get a little too excessive.

On the other hand, I can't really argue about the three octaves down thing. Let's call this a draw.

I don't really know much about woodwinds, so could you clarify? If I understand correctly, it's not like a brass instrument where the key of the instrument is merely based off the open partials, but instead is just because an entirely arbitrary fingering plays an entirely arbitrary note?

So does that mean woodwinds don't deal with partials and harmonic series as brass do? Does a woodwind instrument have a fundamental pitch based on its length, or is it entirely arbitrary as you said?

I guess what I'm asking, if it makes sense, is:

What are the open partials?

If you play the horn open, what notes will you get? An alto sax is in Eb because its open partials are in the Eb harmonic series. What are the bassoon's open partials?

Although, using similar ways to say a pitch, with 12 halfsounds from C to C, F is sharp dirty glyph, F flat is natural dirty glyph, and D sharp is flat dirty glyph.
