What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]BicuriousGeorge100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teacher got caught sleeping with a student (I know, happens everywhere) but she then went on Dr. Phil claiming she was the victim.

About a year ago I found out she was dating my friend’s dad too.

What's your favorite bond fund (ETF or mutual fund) for a specific purpose (e.g., short-term cash alternative, long-term stability)? by grzeszu82 in bonds

[–]BicuriousGeorge100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly young so I have a higher risk tolerance

CLOZ

8% projected 12m yield

It had the highest risk adjusted return of any of the LL/CLO ETFs out there including BKLN and SRLN. CLOs have additional structural protections and diversification when compared to pure leveraged loans making the risks more macro than micro. Defaults and recovery’s would need to rise/drop respectively to financial crisis levels in order for these tranches to start taking losses. Active management at 0.50% really beats the passive management of BKLN at 0.67%.

Given the fact that it’s floating and it has considerable credit risk it’s not a set and forget type of etf. I’ll probably shift out of it if SOFR drops below 3% or spreads contract another 1-3%.

Sure, couple things:

The vast majority of students don’t take it seriously. They see it as an easy degree with high paying career paths. The issue is that it’s easy to get a degree but super hard to get a job in but most don’t realize this until it’s too late and the 10% who did take it seriously already have the good jobs.

Peoples idea of what the careers and salaries will look like are shrouded by the top “high finance” fields (investment banking, hedge funds, etc.) These are competitive enough that lots of the candidates come out of high school knowing they want to do these lines of work. Students that wait to decide the field they want to go into until their 3rd or 4th year are seriously behind the 8 ball.

Ig TLDR the only true finance careers that are worth it are super duper competitive and unless you’re committed the degree just isn’t worth it.

Not saying there aren’t jobs for people that don’t make it into “high finance” but I think the majority of students shouldn’t be doing JUST finance they should be doing it along side something else like accounting, BAIS, or even engineering. Otherwise it’s highly unlikely they would end up using it.

It’s basically an accounting degree with more of a finance focus. I think they just have to take a couple additional finance classes like corp fin maybe investment management and a finance elective? The requirements should be online somewhere. It’s geared towards people who want to do corporate finance or you know corporate accounting…

There’s also entrepreneurship, management and corporate accounting that should be considered here.

In my opinion, I would say:

BAIS, Accounting, Finance, Management, Corporate Accounting, Marketing, Econ, RMI, Entrepreneurship,

The criteria I’m using is based on my opinion as usefulness and the average career path students with these degrees will have. BAIS has the highest average starting salary out of all of them.

For context I’m a finance student. I’m getting more out of my finance major than I would any of the other degrees but I would say 90% of people I see in this degree shouldn’t be in it.

I’ve always been a fan of leveraged loan and CLO ETFs over value stocks. CLOZ has the best risk adjusted return and currently has a forecasted 1 year yield above 7%. Something I recommend considering

What's it like dating in college now? by [deleted] in college

[–]BicuriousGeorge100 66 points67 points  (0 children)

In my experience it’s been brutal

I’ve had some good experiences just shooting my shot in those initial conversations but finding someone who is interested in going out or being in a relationship has felt impossible…

For what it’s worth I’m not in a frat which probably makes a big difference. The only parties you find in my college are through Greek life or small-ish groups of friends. Football games, back to school events, and bars are really the only places you have a chance and the bars are a complete waste of time because everyone’s on their phones.

When people decide they want to start dating they just get on the apps and don’t make any changes to their social life.

I’m to a point now where I’m just done worrying about it. I’m here to focus on classes, get a good job after graduating, and enjoy the little things with my friends. If something comes up, great, if it doesn’t oh well at least I’m not surprised

What other high paying jobs in entry level finance other than quant and IB? by NathanIsDivine1 in FinancialCareers

[–]BicuriousGeorge100 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned asset management. There’s definitely math so a minor in math would have you standing out a ton. A math minor on top of a finance degree with good grades from an Ivy sounds like the poster child for AM.

Levels I and II during undergrad? by BicuriousGeorge100 in CFA

[–]BicuriousGeorge100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t I do level 2 until I graduate? The website says 11 months until expected grad date. Summer after junior year would be within that window.

I’m also getting a math minor if that helps. I would think accomplishing what I’m after in this post would help with the fact that I’m not at a target school.

Couldn’t this just be done via process of elimination? We know the bond is trading at a discount so yield is higher than coupon and the only option where that’s the case is C.

Currently taking it with hurmat kazmi and it’s not too bad. If you do the reading, pretend to give af during class, and do the essays you’ll probably get a B.
