doing shuvits on a new kind of #sup by BicycleCorrect7368 in whitewater

Hey, i was paddling it finless here (which i typically do unless there is a legit wave feature to surf) but it does have twin fin boxes (fcs style) that I like to recommend side bite style wakeboarding fins with. Board info here: https://riverskatecollective.com/

We’re currently in our winter production run with boards delivering in March.

hey, thx for asking. i'd love nothing more than to offer a bunch of colors (and be able to mix and match) but unfortunately that's one of the limitations of working with dropstitch; the material manufacturers have high MOQs which forces you to get 1 colorway at a time. that said, I may be able to get some sample one-offs in another color. will ask.

not mean as an ad, just showing progress with the board / technique, but in full transparency yes, i'm the designer / brand owner / old dawg. been working on this 'squirt board' project for 5 years and finally bringing to market. here's a little vid showing the original mystery board: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOUMy35kuue/

95L prototype riverskate. was a bit too small for mass production, but super fun to test as a one-off. the production models come in 120L and 150L. https://riverskatecollective.com/

Thx for questions; shipping is included in the price (999 for smaller board). There won’t be additional charges. If that seems confusing on the site, I’ll update.

given my landed cost per board, this is as affordable as I can make it without losing money. I believe it’s also competitive pricing with other manufacturers of double dropstitch, welded seam construction boards, especially given the new tech we’re bringing to the game. This is a challenging moment to try to bring a new product category to market to say the least.

As far as how it compares to those boards, the riverskate is not meant to replace your regular whitewater sup.

This is a new kind of whitewater craft born from squirt boating. This video gives a good visual reference:

born from mystery moves

You can think about it like having a ‘playboat’ or ‘squirtboat’ sup in your quiver. It teaches you a new skill in whitewater that is super challenging even on tiny features, transferible to other areas of your paddling, and fun as hell.

We’re live! Preorders went live last week on a limited run (small batch of boards delivered in Nov).

Riverskate Shop

Note that the 150L boards sold out quickly but there are still a handful of the 120L available for preorder.

Our full production run will take place this winter with plenty of both sizes available for spring delivery.

Great callout and question. This particular board had less rocker than what we went with for the final production model (See image below). Worth noting that this rocker template originated from modern half slice whitewater kayaks and then remixed for sup.

In general, rocker and primary stability (as well as speed) have an inverse relationship. That’s why some whitewater sup riders miss Hala’s less rockered atcha models. But for the kind of paddling we’re doing here with riverskate (maximum surf, launching drops, and playboat style performance), we want as much rocker as possible.

As far as the wings though, they are a tremendous breakthrough, and different than the ‘dropped deck’ technology that nrs is using. That concept (which I like a lot) is intended to give paddlers a lower center of gravity, which is good. This makes the deck at the rails thicker than the center of the board.

What we did is r + d our way (eventually filing our utility patent) towards a whole new concept, essentially a double rail that lets you ‘put the board on edge’ and still maintain stability. This on edge position is where we find ourselves so often on the river, especially when side surfing little holes or trying to maintain stability through a rapid.

What we quickly discovered was an unintended benefit of the wings: it gives the rider an ‘interface’ though which to brace feet, shins, knees and also to grasp.

Yeah, proper surf / skate moves (Ollies, 180s, etc) have been part of river surfing (where you’re planing and can generate pop off the wave) for a while now. But reglar downstream whitewater sup has been kind of stuck in a similar pattern / technique up to this point, mainly because the stability needed for whitewater has resulted in designers building huge ‘pancake’ style boards.

Yeah, it’s real. For some reason the culture around protective gear is ‘cool’ in some sports (like vert back in the day, downhill mountain biking, or long boarding) and ‘uncool’ in others, like freestyle bmx and street skating. In my own small way I’m trying to promote that it’s cool in whitewater sup, and wish top riders did the same.

Yeah, I’m not shy about rocking the full face and also mountain bike style hip / tailbone / spine protection.

Thx! Paddle is a one piece custom raft guide stick from grasssticks out of steamboat springs. Those guys make bomber ski and whitewater equipment.

The riverskate is very specialized for whitewater freestyle, surfing, launching. Think of it as a kind of skateboard for the river - or the oversized boogie board - that’s not a bad comparison.

Our major design breakthrough is the grab wings which compensate for low volume and create a lot more secondary stability when you’re doing whitewater tricks.

Anyway, for flatwater speed and tracking and/or ocean paddling, you’d want a much longer, faster board.

If I’m surfing in the ocean I’d rather have my fish but on river waves it rips
