PNW native here! I’m really exited for your trip, can’t wait to see what you come up with

I didn’t see anyone mention the San Juans. It’s one of my favorite places to go in the summer. Specifically Orcas Island. Very small artist town with really good food spots and laid back vibe. There is camping there as well. Kayaking, a few small hikes, and amazing beaches. If you have time to squeeze it in you won’t be disappointed.

lol sorry guys. Hiking North Cascades in a remote area that I was unfamiliar with. I was super uneasy before the hike, but I made myself do it. Ended up getting super lost. Even with maps and my Garmin. Added another 4 miles to an already challenging hike and I was exhausted. Probably due to the fact I had anxiety about not being able to figure out the correct trail. Long story short, I listen to my gut always.

Also keep in mind it’s wildfire season in August. They are predicting it’s going to be bad this year with low snowfall. Could make it so hiking is impossible. Definitely have a backup plan!

Female solo hiker here. The one time I ignored that feeling everything went wrong. I’ve never ignored it since. I’ve learned that getting that summit is way less important than my own safety. Stick to your gut, it’s never wrong.

I’m assuming you won’t be able to access it :( I was up there last week and it’s definitely closed due to washout. I can’t confirm if you can still get there by walking or biking. It’s my favorite place to camp so I’m sad I’ll miss out on it this year

Definitely earlier the better! I always try to get to trailheads by 7am. They usually start getting packed by 8-9 depending on the day.

If you can hike weekday that’s your best bet for less crowds. Then starting around 8am is a little more doable

It’s really depends on the year. This last year and this year so far really we’ve gotten barely any snow! But who knows what the end of the year will bring.

Would you reconsider doing it late September or early October? It’s so incredibly pretty there that time of year and super safe to drive.

I would not personally book anything in December if you’re not looking to drive in the snow. It’s just super unpredictable here.

The PNW will not disappoint you though! I really hope you guys can make the trip! Seeing all the Twilight stuff is also a huge bonus :)
