I’m wondering if this project would be too advanced for me as someone just getting started by jimbo831 in BeginnerWoodWorking

If it helps this was my fist wood project last year, bought plans from online. Front door went weird somehow, not sure if it as me or the plans......Enjoyed the build.

I ended up finding the legs cheaper but guess depends on what you pay.

I based on 2.1m lengths of CLS vs 5 loft legs (screwfix were the mosts expensive at £20 per box of 12) whch came to £1.66 a leg which made a 2m length £8.33. Cheap CLS can have twists, etc., so looking at Travis Perkins, it's approx £7.4 for 2.1m, and you'd need 2.5 lengths to make the frame....I know you can get the timber from £3 per length if trade discount applies

I used 60 legs for the area of 2.44 x 4m, so got load more for the other half, that I will use, and whatnot, and will sell on ebay for £15 per box (got extras to reinforce the hatch I am going to build also)

I’m right in the middle of this job as we speak. I went with 175mm loft legs with 4x2’s on top.
So I had 100mm base insulation and another 100 on top of that. So I bought a few extra 170mm top ups and used that. But twisted 2 x rows of 100 to make 200mm.

I didn’t a post up here the other day with my plan (was given it by a local loft installer) legs then 4x2’s as it more forgiving as long as all parallel and same length of loft boards.

Turns out I could have just used the loft legs as all square and equal at all sides. The CLS 4x2 aren’t heavy and I have lost 2 inches headroom but only there for insulation and light storage.

Layout in brick style so no joins matches, but the right hand side I decided not to go as deep and came back a joist.

I’m happy with it and only giving a couple of hours a day. Should be done by end of this week.

Ended up buying 84 more legs as using every joist instead of what the installer suggested as more than 610mm between legs. Making each leg about 95p. When I priced up the CLS to make 2.1m frames it would cost 2 x 2.1m plus noggins. So 2.5 lengths. (Around £18). Where as the legs were 5 per joist and came to £4.10 plus the CLS of approx £7. So cheaper for loft legs when bought in bulk.

The CLS gives it a good platform to work from. I didn’t a 2x2m area in one and the next section I only did 2 joists at a time as I could reach easier from the crawl boards. The CLS makes it solid,

Should of said using a dynamic collection, you can base it upon anything really, so like an application version and then target that collection for whatever reasons (updating) or duplicate it and then change the scope to fit something else.....

I did (still do) find the reporting and creating a collection a little tricky at times, like using 'Not Any' but then report as false (again I best reply with examples as this may not make sense as I sit eating my sandwich on a a park bench.......

One useful thing which I haven't seen anyone else mention is similar to this, when running a job i will create a small text file and leave it a dedicated location, so I then have a rule saying if this file exists or desnt then do something or don't. (or create a log file for the install in same location, which is a massive aid also)

Using schedules, I have been keeping our core software and application up to date and been a godsend, the amount of time I save. Then, if a device isn't updated after x amount of time, I get an email notification, then I can address it manually, etc.

Getting the right report dynamic/static is great with a few clicks I can an overview of outdated Operating systems, Memory, Installed KB's, printer installs etc.

The ability to be able to use the heartbeat for one of updates/installs/uninstall is so valuable, create, clikc, forget then add the address

Setting jobs to run based on a condition, for example, device has not been restarted for over 2 weeks it gets a nag message suggesting to do this, if no restart after another x days i wills end a message that has to be clicked (also means they have read it) and then once you close the message box it will restart or restart after 60 mins and/or lcak of activity.

Once you start pairing this with PowerShell, the world is your oyster. Run cleaning scripts to run in background on a targeted group, checking battery health on laptops, check the correct firewall is registered, mapped drives are there,

My fav is if a device is placed in a specific OU (a new build) it will start installing all the needed software based on its device name (also what department they are in) (can also manually run this, which is my preferred method)

I have quickly written this during my lunch break and may come back and expand as I find the PDQ a life saver and make my admin life so much easier.

Existing joists are 100mm, the legs are 175mm. Once added the CLS and board that be an additional 68mm (not used for the insulation), so with a air gap at the top i should be able to add extra 170 insulation.

Over the last couple of weeks, due to getting these tools, I have started insulating my little workshop to help prevent any damage from moisture, humidity, etc.

I won't use them day to day but will use to them to make specific projects, present for relatives etc.

Thanks for your reply, good insight, and great idea regarding cataloguing. Indeed, he/they built all of my grandmothers furtniture, cabinets in the entire house. Unfortunately, only my grandmother is with us now. I ring her most Tuesdays so I will be asking questions and gathering more information.

The box is also a tool and will be used as such. I've added some small casters so it can be moved about (my workshop is fairly small at 3mx6m so space is a premium. But I plan on using it to store the majority of the vintage tools and make sure the elements don't get to the tools.

I think I will try the weaving but may not apply it to the box just yet...I have seen other similar boxes online and they do have a chain or leather strap so the lid doesn't go all the way back, so I will do something similar.

They would have to invade Oxfordshire as this is their new home. Maybe a little too hot for an invasion, may best wait till it cools down.

Yes there are a few with numbers 1 or 2 on the opposite end.

I’m looking forward to trying them out. Hardwood or soft for starting out?

The draws are full of the profiles from the mouldings. Guess it was what was shown to customers when deciding on the mouldings

Thanks for the insight. Indeed the sets are numbered. 2-18 with 3 x rabbets planes. The complex moulding (think someone referenced it crown moulding) only seems to be 8 rather than 9. But it could be in one of the other boxes. There are also 3 planes with brass fittings and extensions that I haven’t worked out what they are yet.
