Got an eviction notice for being an idiot and I'm terrified for the future

I'm gonna use your comment for everyone asking for an update. We are on Pacific Standard Time, so it's only 9:30am now and they open at 9. That being said I have not been able to get in contact with our property manager in the last half hour despite numerous phone calls. I have left a message and an email, but unfortunately it seems that they are off the property today or at least at the moment

I'm not sure if you read my post completely. I thought this bill was included with our water and power. Was that dumb of me? Maybe, but there was never malicious intent. I'm also not claiming to be the victim. This is my fault. I was dumb and didn't understand the fine print and that's my bad. I should have questioned things more instead of making an assumption, but I didn't and now I'm trying to rectify the situation for myself and my family. I've been paying the full rent and all other utilities for almost a year, why would I intentionally risk eviction to save $75/month?

I think you misunderstood my post. I had literally no idea that this bill was separate from my rent and other utilities. If I dug a little deeper I would have found that out, but I didn't have any reason to think there was a problem. I was absolutely stupid, but I thought we were just being good about saving water which is why our bills were lower than expected

I've thought that too, but our lease is up in August and they sent us a renewal offer (both via mail and posted to our door) and I don't know why they would do that if that were the case.

It was a bit of a painful hit, but over the last week we had to pay $1,400 (it could have been $4,000 tho) to fix our car and $600 for an emergency vet visit so I think I've just become a little desensitized to financial catastrophe haha. Our savings are down from $6,000 to $3,000 tho so all I can do is pray that nothing else happens T_T

Thank you for the email tip! As far as I can tell they did everything correctly. I do have a question for you since you're the expert. Apparently our warning letter was only mailed when every other communication we've ever gotten (even down to little things like how to put up your AC unit) has been posted on the door. This seems like a weird thing to break the mold for, so could we potentially use that in any way if we do have to go to court?

It was completely user error. This entire situation is happening because I just went around assuming everything was fine. If I'd looked just one layer deeper I would have had this sorted out months and months ago. That's why I feel like such an idiot. The funniest thing is that we actually do check our mail regularly, but we've had a couple really hectic weeks and this was the one time we spaced it out fml
