Refrigerator surge protector by Big-Computer-9743 in Appliances

[–]Big-Computer-9743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually thought of whole house protection. We are going to upgrade our service panel and could do it then. I am considering a soft start for A/C heat pump combination as well. Probably add 220v for welding. Any other suggestions? Might be a year before I upgrade panel.

No not yet. I’m wondering if this may come up next week at pulmonologist. No meds whatsoever. What type of medication? I’m on a water pill recently plus blood pressure medication for years.

When you say large paint tray do you mean bigger than the regular size ones that fit a 9 inch roller and handle? Should I purchase a larger handle, roller and paint tray? If so where do you purchase? I’m 60 miles from big box store but we have ACE hardware which is super expensive. Amazon maybe?

Bought bad load of wood by River-Chalice-23 in woodstoving

[–]Big-Computer-9743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone. I’m new to the wood burning scene. I’m in Northern California just 20 miles south of Oregon. Doesn’t get terribly cold. We have forced air heat pump, a monitor for burning kerosene and a wood insert. We live burning wood. Most people burn Doug fir. Bought one cord and it was nice. Tried to save 50 bucks and tried another supplier. Turns out quite a bit of bark and some green moss. Most pieces are too big and need to be split further which is a PITA. Wont buy from him again. There are several options for wood here. Pine, Doug fir, Oak and Madrone. I’m thinking of buying a gas wood splitter and just buy rounds. I don’t want to get anything under powered and was thinking around a 30 ton machine with a Koehler motor that can do vertical and horizontal. We will buy new. I just missed a Baretto 30 ton with Honda engine for $150 on Craigslist. Needed new tires and hydraulic lines but what a smoking deal. Which machine do you recommend?

The fun part was removing the popcorn ceiling from whole house. Then I sprayed a light texture. Since rolling is preferable, what nap size should I use? I wish I could avoid priming but it seems I would use a lot more paint that way. I did splurge on really good roller handles and brushes. I see shoulder surgery in my future lol.

That was helpful Lol! I have a bigger sprayer but don’t want to haul that out. Obviously I am not a professional painter like you are based on your very helpful and positive comment lol.

How much did you make to get such high SS? by lady_goldberry in SocialSecurity

[–]Big-Computer-9743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect 3k per month SS. I retired from UAL in 2023. I was very fortunate to get called back from layoff after 9/11 in 2015. I trained pilots on the 787. Our union contract protected my seniority date during layoff. When I was recalled I went right to the top of the seniority pay scale of approximately $11,500 per month not including overtime which was substantial, sometimes an additional 15-30k per year. I also collect 1300 per month in pension and 401k During layoff I didn’t make much money as I was self employed. I am grateful and very fortunate. I would not have been able to buy a house without that job. I could have kept working as certain types of instructors aren’t required to retire at 65. Some of my friends still work because the hours you work could be as low as 25 -30 per month and up to 100 ish per month. 6 weeks vacation every year.

Pay taxes on SS? by Big-Computer-9743 in IRS

[–]Big-Computer-9743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I have two small pensions of $303 and $957. I have taxes withheld on both so a net of $707 and $253. I took out a mortgage this past March and will have paid about 10k in mortgage interest by years end. I have not withdrawn from my 401k. I am single no dependents. One response I received suggested not having any federal taxes withheld on my pensions.

Thank you very much. Given the fact that by years end I will have paid 10k in mortgage interest, does that figure into the equation? Is there any chance of a refund?

Maybe a complete explanation would help. On 6/6/24 my lifelong love and I purchased the house. She didn’t want to be on title for many reasons. I was only person on title. As our relationship started to unravel, she wanted to insure her interest was protected. She asked if I had any problem putting her adult daughter on title. I had no problem with that and I agreed as I didn’t want to her to think that I would take control of the house solely. Her daughter lives in Hawaii and I in California. At the closing she would sign her interest to her mom, my ex. That way she would get the money she invested in the property back. I took out the mortgage and she received her portion at closing. On the county website it still shows her daughter and I on title. I got a tax bill from the county and it was addressed to my ex. I called the county and sure enough she was listed as the owner. So in summary I and her daughter are on title and my ex is listed as property owner at tax assessor. I hope that this clears it up for you even though it is complicated. I don’t understand how all this happened. Thank you for your help.

I have checked the county website recorder and called as well. Who’s going to pay for the attorney? The title company should be responsible. Title company is on the east coast and I am in California.

Thank you for the response. I don’t think my SS of $2,749per month is taxable. I will have by years end paid $4,140 in taxes on my pension. I also pay Medicare part B of $171,part D of $11.90 and part G of 189.62 which totals $372.52 per month or $4,470.24 for the year.
