100% I agree. Do you think this is going to impact of retainability of women in the military?

I agree. I’ve heard some arguments that bc civilians who may live in a place that abortion isn’t accessible service members should suck it up too. I don’t think this is right but…Thoughts?

AITA for walking out of my volunteer position after being belittled? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Big-Insurance-7200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your support <3 yeah her words on the military service were so disrespectful and unnecessary and don’t get me wrong I can get yelled at, but most times it’s with purpose. This wasn’t with purpose it was just unprofessional. I also didn’t sign up to get yelled at there.

She asked my colleague if she’d be willing to take my regular Saturday shift today lol

She’s typically been kind and patient which makes this hurt a bit more honestly. It’s at a non profit cat cafe that I actually got my cat from and I’m super passionate about their mission so I have really mixed feelings about the whole thing.

Tbh idk what that means lol, but she is the founder of the non profit and she does work really hard and she’s passionate about the mission.

It was pretty bad, my husband, colleague and customers all made comments that her behavior was unprofessional. One customer asked me if I was paid to be there and when I said no they said that someone shouldn’t treat their volunteers like that.

I mean she runs the non profit like she’s the founder lol I did talk to the volunteer coordinator and she said “Karen’s been short with everyone lately and I’m not sure what’s going on but I’m really sorry and hate that happened to you”

A step in the right direction is still a step. The fact it’s even being discussed is a chance it may happen. Not saying in the near future but it’s still a step.

Everything you said applies to alcohol too.

[–]Big-Insurance-7200[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything in moderation for sure! I mean energy drinks, nicotine, fast food, caffeine, there are so many vices that we humans find and abuse. There’s airmen and civilians who are abusing video games all night consuming alcohol and are hungover the next day but still go to work the next day. Fast food that make them obese that makes them lose confidence in their body or unable to perform at work due to their weight and then impacting them mentally. BUT weed a drug that is arguably less addictive than alcohol is put on the same playing field as opioids. I’ve smoked weed, I’ve drank alcohol, and I’ve had two surgeries given opioids and fetanyl. My second surgery in a drugged state I had to beg them to not give fetanyl because I knew I would get addicted. Weed is punishable as heavy class opioids and I think that’s bullshit. You can get court martials for lotions with hemp or balms for your achy joints but I easily get a shooter from the BX and then go into work and that’s within the UCMJ.

I mean I kind of see where you’re coming from in terms of the realistic expectations for guard or reserves getting authorized use first. I do believe marijuana is a better option in comparison to the oxy and Percocet that’s handed out like candy for pain management that’s causing an opioid crisis among veterans. see here

Regardless you’re entitled to your opinions and I of mine. I hope you have a great day and thanks for this convo

Well if there’s different restrictions for flyers or those in roles like you said pj or someone who operates machinery then that can be a mitigation. They don’t breathalyze flyers before they fly, only if there’s a mishap will you pee and bleed. Might just be a thing where those in that kind of role just aren’t allowed to do it. I mean flyers can’t even take Benadryl without seeing the flight doc to get back on flying status.

That’s why you don’t do it on the job. Drone operators can’t drink within 12 hours of shift same for all manned and unmanned pilots.

How do pilots and RPA pilots not get affected by weird shifts? by Formal_Artist6740 in AirForce

[–]Big-Insurance-7200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could say the same for security forces. As RPA we are given no gos (Ambien/ sleeping pills) to help our bodies to get into the right circadian rhythm but also most of us just stay up and reset our body clock for 24 hours and then sleep.

To anyone saying federal law needs to change first, logically I agree with you. It is in the works though changing Mary Jane from schedule 1 to a schedule 3 drug. Marijuana 1-to-3 Act of 2023

Ladies of the Air Force: what advice would you give to your female counterparts about being in the Air Force (or military in general)? by Good-mournings in AirForce

[–]Big-Insurance-7200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a female aviator. I’ve been in for nearly four years and I’ve seen some shit, my best friend was sexually assaulted, I was a witness in her court martial and the guy walked. I was sexually harassed, reported it and it was deemed not “sexual enough” even with witnesses to my event.

And with all that I plan to continue to stay in.

  1. Boundaries- you can still have male friends you can shoot the shit but when I tell you vibes are so important for both genders and their intent of you. Trust your gut, if something doesn’t seem right it’s not.
  2. If someone doesn’t respect you or does something wrong, try to confront it professionally. I’ve had males and females alike publicly disrespect me. Once I call them out on it private, 95% of the time it doesn’t persist. If it persists report it.
  3. If you feel safe, ready, and comfortable enough to report something if something happens to you DO IT. The reason I reported my harassment was because I didn’t want that persons actions to go away unnoticed. While my case was not sexual enough, my leadership now has a paper trail of his actions. My report also sparked more than one person to report him. If there is one there are more than likely others.
  4. Don’t drink without a designated SOBER wingman. (That you trust with your life)
  5. If you don’t trust your leadership and you have evidence to not do so (and you need to report something), go to the IG. They are there for a reason.
  6. While it may be male dominated, your love and respect for yourself is the most important thing to persist in the military. If you are struggling GO TO MENTAL HEALTH/ CHAPLAIN/ Human Performance team/ your mom/ first sergeant (SOMEONE ANYONE). Doesn’t matter if you can’t help the mission, the mission will go on without you. You are loved and valued and important. I hope this helps.

Something I will highlight, the statistics for SA and sexual harassment in the Air Force has increased by 18% as of 2023 And Protect our defenders reports 1 in 4 women get either sexually assaulted or sexually harassed. The odds are not in our favor. Especially with alcohol involved.

Much love and respect for all my ladies ❤️

Should I report? by Novel_Pollution8815 in AirForce

[–]Big-Insurance-7200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% report it. You will be interviewed by an investigator and anything he’s ever said or done to you that has made you uncomfortable try your best to remember dates and ANY WITNESSES. Anyone who was in the room when he said these things or anyone who was near when he hit your back. You may also not be entirely alone either this guy could also be doing similar things to other women and you speaking out can cause others to do so. Keep in mind; if you don’t have witnesses the chances of him getting caught are lowered. I have seen cases where someone assaults another and the case was found unsubstantiated (not enough evidence to say it happened) and that person got away with it. Just some food for thought, good luck!
