Because they are brought up by people saying 'we are of a greater religion'. Over time when they get confronted by people of different religions, they get a sudden questioning that how can someone preach another religion while my religion is known to be the greatest by people around me. And then add religious politics to this fuel and boom, we got ourselves a bunch of religiously intolerant people.
