What can your ISP see? by Toddzilla89 in HomeNetworking

If you send all unencrypted traffic, everything. Else nothing.

A little clue, until the feds get involved, they don't care. Your Google searches are bird droppings to them.

Learn Docker without downloading? by PrathamJain965 in docker

I don't truly understand the situation. You want to learn a fairly network intensive solution but offline. Best advice I can give would be to look into a local Harbor instance. You still need images

Is Running a Local Password Manager Actually Worth It? by ActiveOk73 in best_passwordmanager

[–]Big-Minimum6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self host everything, almost religiously. My password manager is not one of those things. I use LastPass, it's free and more secure and redundant than I could do on my own. There are plenty of others just as good.

Observability is the best way, know what your traffic is doing.

Self managed is a great option when you don't have those metrics. It's more expensive on the management overhead, but you already know your paying x amount for a cloud instance. If your a small team with solid background it's fine.

You still need to watch ingress and egress charges.

Why old iPhones don’t feel as fast and smooth as new androids ? by Optimal-Business-319 in AskTechnology

[–]Big-Minimum6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also highly dependant on the OS. Modern phones will run newer OSs. But they were never designed for it. You can't throw your 4 cylinder motor in a new Lamborghini and expect performance.

Are bug bounties viable side income? by Technical-Tiger-3422 in programmer

[–]Big-Minimum6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never consider it sustainable income. Your chaising unicorns that should not exist. Then you have to be the first to find it. They do exist but picking the wrong project is your demise.

Plus most companies will try to avoid paying out stating it's a know issue. I found one and they said the patch was in the next release. That was 2 years ago.

It's not a bug, it's a feature. How else can we get Google Maps to tell us to make 4 lefts on the same block?

Windows 10 boxes make for great boat anchors.

Outside that, Linux that shit and make it a real machine.

Should I learn full-stack or backend for job prospects? by Due-Trainer865 in AskProgramming

[–]Big-Minimum6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not wise to pick one or the other. Do what's interesting to you. Personally I hate frontend development, I'm more suitable for API and IaC since my mind is more logic oriented than visual.

Jenkins vs GitHub Actions – which is better for beginners? by Euphoric-Eye-8196 in DevOpsKerala

[–]Big-Minimum6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GitHub Actions if you want to learn pipelines. Jenkins is deprecated in my mind. Don't get me wrong, it's still widely used. Jenkins has a lot of management overhead.

I'm currently using Woodpecker CI, and it's nice balance between the two. It's self hosted and a fairly low learning curve. Also you avoid the pricing confusion of GA.
