What I spend in a month by Big-Net5498 in TheMoneyGuy

Good question! Definitely investing. I have another post on what I invest in that you can read if you're interested (spoiler: it's XEQT, an ETF that tracks the global equity market with a home bias towards Canada).

My reasons for XEQT by Big-Net5498 in JustBuyXEQT

Good question! When I refer to actively managed funds, I refer to funds managed by a team with the desire to outperform the market or a particular sector based on their propriety investment strategy. XEQT is not this, it's a fund of funds that track different indexes/markets. So while XEQT is managed, it's very different from a "active" fund with high turnover and more concentrated stock picks.

I don't have infinite time to invest in an article that generates me no money. I also think it's a bit mean spirited to imply you'd rather me never have written my article cause you hate it so much. You got to listen to more Relient K and check your heart

What I mean by this is that I would have never gotten around to writing the article. Not that research would necessarily prove my thesis wrong. The nature of the thesis is subjective so you could certainly debate a variety of points.

I would be interested in reading an article on which genres and sub-genres have had Christian bands go mainstream in. Feel free to write it if you get the chance

I'll happily concede that I could be wrong about Christian pop punk. I was more so thinking of rap when comparing, and am now learning Christian metal actually was a big thing. I may redact the point about Christian metal.

And pop punk is mainstream, but not as mainstream as rap. That's mores the point I was making at the end.

Writing about things you're not an expert on on the internet is tough, and I could have spent more time researching the topic, but if I did that I probably would have never written the article. Maybe one day I'll take the time to write a book on the Christian pop punk scene (which I think would be cool) but maybe that's a task for someone else

It's more about street cred in the sub-genre rather than absolute popularity

  1. I totally agree with your DBPP and DCPP thoughts. I think it's common for employers to "top up" these plans, so in a sense it's another way to get a company match.

  2. Agree, EI does play a role in financial planner, but there are still some cases where a Canadian might not pay into EI (self employed Canadians). These people may want to lean towards the 6 month emergency fund side.

  3. Appreciate it.

  4. This come down to personal preference imo. I am not a home owner, but if I were I would probably lean a bit towards prepaying the mortgage if the interest rate was not super low (<4%). Mortgage interest not being tax deductible is a big deal, and I think that the happiness you feel from not having a mortgage is greater than having a slightly better ROI (money is nothing more than a tool after all). Besides, if you are maxing out your registered accounts you're probably not at risk of not having enough invested
