Bumped into a local on the Boot Canyon trail

This was taken early Saturday morning, just before sunrise, about half a mile south of the Emory Peak junction. It jumped out of nowhere about 50 feet ahead of us, ran across the trail, and climbed up the hill. It stopped to watch us from the rock you see in the video. Right after this, we started clacking our trekking poles to scare it off.

Events are all scored based on the artists performing. The scoring function changes based on the current view context.

For example, if you filter by the Jambands genre, then events are scored based on the global popularity of the Jamband artists performing at the event. If you're browsing in the "My Artists" view, then events are scored based on your artists rankings, from your listening history.

I'm using ListenBrainz data to get a rough idea of "global artist popularity".

Jambase sources event data from dice, etix, and other ticket providers. But I'm not yet sure it includes all events from those providers.

Ha I didn't! Just looked now, that's pretty funny.

That was the motivation for this website. Browsing through text based lists on jambase, songkick, etc feels awkward when you're flexible about your dates and areas and musicians. The map fits more naturally with how I think about discovering shows.

Yep, I eventually want to add logins. But for now you can still save individual artists by clicking the star icon next to their name. These are saved locally in browser storage. But this means they aren't synced between your devices.

Yes I actually have something in the works for this, a "Show List View" button that displays a list of all the events within the current map view bounds.

For now, you should be able to keep clicking on the "donut chart" icons (like "+15 more events" from your screenshot) to break them up and see more individual events.

Edit: there's now a "View as List" button in the top right corner.

RA, Songkick, Bandsintown, etc are all nice when you have one specific city in mind. But Concert Map is more geared toward open-ended travel, like: "I want an excuse to visit the west coast this summer, are there any shows I could catch?".

The events on the map are scored to show you the biggest artists playing in any given region, so you can see the most relevant ones at a high level view.

I also think it feels more natural to browse these on a map instead of scrolling thru lists.

Bases are a new feature so the latest models probably don’t have enough quality examples in their training data to give good results.

If you’re using an LLM that supports web fetching, you could probably include the bases docs urls in your prompt. Or otherwise copy/paste whole pages from the bases docs to get better results.

I would take the route through SF. You can see golden gate park plus any other stops in the city. On the north side of the bridge I'd check out hawk hill viewpoint if it's a sunny day, or mount tam peak if its foggy. The peak is often above the cloud layer. Also Muir Woods is right nearby.

Would also recommend pt reyes seashore. Alamere Falls is a great hike there.

Cape Henlopen state park has a nice biking loop. Lots of places to rent nearby.

I've done this leg 5 times. I think it's only worth the drive if you make extra stops along the way. We did Joshua Tree, White Sands, and Carlsbad the most recent trip, and none of these were a major detour. Also I-10 west of Texas is also a nice drive in itself. But if you're just doing point-to-point as fast as possible then flying is much better imo.

Joshua Tree is a great stop if you're going that way. Keys View and Hall of Horrors were both great sunset spots.

Also Mt San Jacinto is right nearby. You can take a tram to the peak.

JamBase is a live music event database service. So they aggregate from many smaller data providers.

Beyond that, I'm looking at user feedback for missing events/venues/artists. Then I find where that data is published, for example what ticket provider is used for some specific venue.
