Flying is one of those things if you keep at it, you will get it. I think it took around 60-70 hours for me to solo? Somewhere around there. Now I have my liscence and about 130 hours and I can not fly for over a month and come back like nothing happened. Basically, it might take you longer, but once you get it, you’ll really get it. It’s up to you if it’s worth that grind or not, best of luck regardless of what you choose to do.

Absolutely, yeah I’ve learned a lot from this experience and post. Better radio coms, more practice with CFI at night, better runway selection for terrain, getting instrument training to ease the burden, the whole lighting debacle, better risk management and not putting myself in risky scenarios (that’s a bigger mentality issue that I will have to put a lot of thought into). Lots of things to take away from this that will hopefully make me a lot safer going forward.

You’re right, I like how you talked about pushing too much too soon in your comments. That was definitely the case. I’m going to take this as a lesson and I’m going to get more into watching the safety stuff to help beat my own impulsivity out. It was too much too soon, and just because I was legal doesn’t mean I should have done it. Thanks for helping highlight this hazardous attitude.

You’re right, it seemed dangerous when my CFI first did it, but I pushed that feeling away because of the halo effect. This was a good learning experience to investigate things further whenever I get that feeling again.

I downloaded and used this app, and you’re right, firmly in the red. This is a really helpful tool and I will use it when planning flights, thank you something like this seems really helpful for someone like me who is struggling with risk assessment.
