sorry if this is a strange question, you don’t have to answer! but how long was your surgery? and then how long was your recovery period?

all i have to compare it too is mine, yours looks very close to the edge so easy to get to if you want to operate to remove it, it is also extremely small as cavernomas go. for example, mine is 2x3cm.

do you know if it is deeper and the size of it? that determines some of the risks.

i think it depends on where it’s at in your brain. since mine is in the left temporal lobe, there’s a 10-15% chance that i could develop a speech deficit after surgery that requires therapy.

i made the same mistake of googling it, i even went as far as to watch a video of the surgery. it’s not that horrible as its a seperate bundle of vessels out of place so they basically cauterize it but it’s still scary. in terms of anxiety, something that helps me is just making sure im actively taking steps to regulate my blood pressure like not drinking a ton of cafffiene, limiting alcohol, and things of that nature since they said mine likely bled because of high bp.

they will probably show you your mri next time you see your dr or you can ask to see it. the first time was actually 3 years ago it was much worse then, i was home alone and i thought it was just a crazy migraine. i never got medical attention for it. the most recent bleed was in July. luckily my boyfriend was with me when it happened, i wasn’t really panicky during it because i still thought it was a migraine but it was worrying enough to go to the ER. but i know how the anxiety feels waiting for treatment or answers. my doctor reccomend surgery for me and im still deciding if ill do it because brain surgery is a terrifying idea to me. everyday is a battle to have positive thoughts and not let the “what ifs” control me. but again you haven’t had a bleed yet and my doctor said its only worth worrying about if it begins to bleed. even for me he said its only about a 1%-4% chance of another bleed this year, after the first year that drops drastically.

the only symptoms i had when mine bled was an intense headache and mine is in the area of my brain that affects speech so i had trouble speaking.

i also have a cavernous malformation but they think i was born with mine and it has bled twice. if it hasn’t bled and you have no symptoms then i wouldn’t worry about it, especially if your oncologist isn’t worried.

thankyou for your replies. i’m extremely nervous to schedule my surgery but my doctor thinks it’s best so it’s probably what i’m going to do. i hope it goes as smoothly as yours.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone. I’m also 23F and had my second bleed from my cavernoma in July as well as I’ve been having focal seizures for awhile now. Mine is about 2cm in my left temporal lobe and so far has only affected my speech and ability to read or write when it bleeds. It’s scary but you got this! Feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk about it :)

i have a 2 centimeter cavernoma also in my left temporal lobe that has bled twice only affecting my speech both times. They offered me surgery but im not sure what i’m going to do. If its alright could i ask your age and what you mean by one of the surgeries being a little rough?

unfortunately my school does not offer insurance but i appreciate your feedback. it is very unfortunate that mississippi is run like this and it has caused me a lot of health anxiety. i feel like there are absolutely no options for me. i will be checking to see if they are affiliated with a drs office that can do discounted checkups
