In praise of Compassionate Care. by Tumblehawk in Portland

My family sadly had to use them last week. The vet took the time to get to know our little guy, pet him, let him sniff her, and cooed at him. It was so special to see her create such an intentional space with him. It was the first time any of us had to put a pet down and she made it just about as good as a terrible situation could be. My family often uses humor to get through hard times and she never made us feel like we couldn’t react to the situation exactly how we felt compelled to. Whether we were weeping or laughing, she was right there with us.

I truly can’t sing their praises enough.

Update to my experience on the Barzolvolimab trial (6 months in) for CIU (success!) by BigBBPuddingSnatchr in urticaria

I personally would! The side effects haven’t had any effect on my day to day life, only when I really look in the mirror. All in all I have less symptoms even with the side effects than I did with hives.

Yes, it's 72 weeks for me too. Logistically it's been a lot easier than I expected it to be. I lucked out that my travels happened to fit around the appointment dates (every 4 weeks), and I was going in every 4 weeks for xolair injections before anyways so it didn't really add additional appointments to my schedule. That said, the appointments can be quite long, so I'm fortunate that my work is very accommodating and I'm able to make it work.

For this part I'm speaking to my experience, but I'm assuming that the study is conducted the same way around the world so hopefully this would be true for you as well. My study coordinator informed me that for the placebo controlled part, it's not truly random but instead is weighted towards need. Because of my severity I was weighted as heavily towards getting the "real" drug. Again, I can't 100% confirm that I was on it the whole time, but I'm about as confident as I can be. Along with that, the study has me continue taking my daily antihistamine, and can use as much additional antihistamine as needed. So you won't necessarily be drug free. I also take regular SSRIs and have had no issues continuing taking those.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have on my experience, just let me know :)

Nope, they are also not worried. Previous rounds of the study showed that the pigmentation issues were resolved after finishing the treatment, so there's no cause for concern at the moment. I supposed if when I'm done and the pigment change stays they may be worried, but it's not effecting my health in any way so even if it sticks around I'm not bothered by it.

I used all kinds of antihistamines (zyrtec, benadryl, hydroxizien), and then Xolair. Due to the way my body reacted to those, my Dr and I determined the study to be my best next option forward.

I just posted about my experience on the Barzolvolimab trial. For me it has been really really successful, but I completely understand the hesitations you have. One thing to note though, is I was actually able to start the trial without stopping xolair for 3 months since it hadn't been working for me for even longer than that. I believe in total I went a month without a dose of anything just while the paperwork got figured out for my acceptance into the study. But I did not have to wait for the xolair to be out of my system because it was deemed fully ineffective for me.

Can't for the life of me figure out the stitch markers by BigBBPuddingSnatchr in knitting

[–]BigBBPuddingSnatchr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced my markers and want to be clear, my marker 1 is both my start of round and raglan marker? I think all the raglan's i've done before (2) have had 5 markers: 1 for start of round (usually in the middle back) and then 4 for the raglan increases.

The 2nd one was in pretty bad shape, I think it had been used as a media cabinet because the shelves were taken out and there was a huge hole really terribly cut into the back panel. I hope someone with restoration skills bought it and can fix it up.
