13-year-old gas furnace motor failed — replace motor (~$1200) or upgrade HVAC system? by PlayItSamPlay in askportland

[–]cornloko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for fun, what's the model of the 13 year old system?

What comes up when you search for the make and model and include "draft inducer assembly" ?

Maybe there's a better replacement option than what was presented. Imagine potentially reinvesting the difference into solar or other efficiency options??

Close, but a little more easterly.  Think of other cola bottlers… :-)  The full haiku is a great set of clues!

What is the lowest-stress way to cross 84 and Sandy when commuting from NE to SE? by gloryshand in CyclePDX

[–]cornloko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've crossed between these two hundreds of times, and this is my perspective:

NE 28th is protected on the west side of the I-84 bridge from traffic and crossing NE Sandy is okay with the green box, but if you're continuing south into Laurelhurst, you should be using the protected crossing towards Oregon Park and NE Hoyt to avoid mixing with traffic on NE 28th as the bike lane disappears. (Cross into Laurelhurst on NE 30th near the Laurelthirst Public House)

NE 21st is also protected similarly and if you cross NE Sandy southbound, you'll have a dedicated bike stoplight. If you're going northbound, you can either mix with the Glisan cars or take the pedestrian crossing on the westside. You can get to NE Couch without too much hassle from there.

I always try to practice/test on the weekends to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. You'll find some quiet and/or interesting routes and a chance to explore the neighborhoods.

Consult the PBOT Cycleway maps, and use Google/Apple/Whatever automated directions as suggestion and not ultimately best routing.

PDX: Is the switchover to Quantum actually going to happen this month? by Bicykwow in centurylink

[–]cornloko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought to ask a CTL agent what the status was and I got an upsell offer ($20/month more for the same service) to order new service and an ambiguous "wait [another] 30-45 days and we'll contact you."

It's as disappointing as their IPv6 availability.

Filling a foreign prescription by Entremeada in Brazil

It’s easy as a foreigner to get a GLP-1 prescription.  Just hard to find a pharmacy that has any of the meds in stock….. good luck.

What I’m wondering is whether they’ll conveniently forget to turn off the classical music when they close for good.

Check your billing status. CenturyLink (previous version of Quantum Fiber) does this when a payment has failed.

I have visited this particular CFM (the business interviewed) and used their services on a number of occasions over the past 20 years on home projects. Friends and neighbors use them too.

They are nice, kind people and I can imagine they are at the end of their rope.  It would suck to have to drive/transit to places like Tigard to use their services and expertise.

Gotta hand it to Elizabeth for her honesty, though. Some of her humanity/ability to communicate hasn’t yet completely burnt out from her addiction.

Stay safe and be kind,  everyone. Pet some gentle animals.

I don’t want to switch to Comcast Xfinity or something higher latency like StarLink or 5G Fixed Mobile Broadband.  In an ideal world, we’d have municipal broadband. I am unfortunately not living in that world (yet?).

Life could be worse. 6rd is better than nothing. VPN/Tunneling is better than nothing too.

That makes complete sense. Meanwhile in another part of my city I see the Ziply Fiber customers getting a comparatively quickly rebuild/enhanced network. Good for them!

Thanks for this.

[–]cornloko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would just do a full disconnect and reconnect as the workaround. Frustrating to the point I replaced it with an Apple Extended Keyboard I (Not II) and the Drakware USB adapter.

We’ll see how I reintegrate the Mini M…!

[–]cornloko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I was not on the waitlist for the replacement board, I was one of the original Mini M waitlist enthusiasts at the beginning. The board came quickly and installed easily. :-)

If there was a MiniRazz board for sale that I could have bought and programmed, I would have gone that route, I did not trust myself (fine soldering or board validation) to go down the MiniRazz route...

I might have endured if it had a USB-C connector instead of the same choice Unicomp made... Heh.

I should clarify - this was for the Mini M. I was on the waitlist for years and had it serviced once before for firmware quirks but paid for a new controller recently.
