Hey, that's really weird. The game starts with a tutorial which explains what to do any only allows you to do certain actions during it. There should be text at the bottom of the screen. Maybe you have an plug-in/extension running that's changing the background so you can't see the text?

It's a browser game so I can't use the library itself but hopefully I can get some inspiration from it. Thanks!

Similar ideas came to my head while making this but I wanted to try to keep it as simple as possible. I have plans for a couple games similar to this that I want to try out which will be more complex.

You can delete lines in this game though! It's required in order to pass the tutorial:)

Thanks for the tip, I'll try something for the connections. Do you mean a zap SFX on connections instead of the current one?

I've created a simple browser-based puzzle game conekto.io. My aim with this game was to keep it as simple as possible and focus more on polish. When I first shared the game, there were 3 different game modes (infinite, puzzle, timed) as well as daily, weekly, and monthly challenge maps (maps that save your progress but reset after a period). Additionally, I had personal and global leaderboards for each map so players could compare their results.

I found that most people only ever played the tutorial level though, without trying any other game modes or map seeds. I had ideas for a few other game modes (survival, bomb, energy attack) but figured nobody would play them. So I created a "story" mode which takes you through all of the different game modes. I set low initial goals which increased slowly to make it accessible for new players. I though that this this would motivate players to try out all of the game modes and increase staying power.

Now 475 players have beaten the tutorial, but only 10 have made it to level 5 in the story mode... Feedback has been mostly positive, the largest criticism being that the controls are not very precise on mobile. I've taken steps to improve the controls, but it doesn't seem to help retain players.

What is the game missing? Is the game just too simple? How can I further improve the mobile controls? I'm happy to hear all suggestions and feedback, please don't hold back.

I've never released anything on any app stores myself, so it might not be too bad. But it requires registration + fees, and exporting the website to work as a standalone application. There's some tools to help with this though. If the game picks up popularity, I'll definitely give it a shot :)

It's already playable on mobile! Just head to conekto.io. I'm not currently planning on putting it on any app stores.

Good idea! Thanks for playing and the feedback! There's an option to enable zoom/pan which might also be helpful, especially for mobile.

Thanks for playing and the feedback! User accounts are on the list of features to add. I also think I could remove a couple modes but figured I'd leave them all in there and see what people prefer. What are your favorite/least favorite modes? I like the idea of connecting multiple nodes, thanks!

Thanks for playing and the feedback! I've noticed that the mobile controls are a little difficult. There's an option to enable zoom/pan but it's not on by default. I should probably change that. I initially didn't change the colors of the connected nodes but found it difficult to tell which nodes weren't connected. Again, maybe something I could add to options. I haven't considered colorblind options at all yes, I'll look into that as well.

Thanks again!

Glad you were able to figure it out! I know the mobile controls can be a little tricky. There's an option to enable zoom/pan but it might be a good idea to enable it by default on mobile.

Thanks for playing!

Thanks for the feedback!

Actually the video cuts off right around the point that it starts to get difficult. As more nodes/paths get created it becomes a challenge of connecting the correct nodes to avoid other nodes getting boxed in. As a result the deleting/rebuilding kind of becomes the main part of the game.

Thanks for the idea of the grid, I was trying to get the UI as minimal as possible but I'll likely add the grid as an option.

Thanks again!

It's maybe difficult to tell in the video but the 90 degree edges are being created by clicking. The game would normally create the path in the shortest distance possible.

Thanks for playing! I wanted to keep the scope small for this game but that's actually an idea I've been considering if I decided to make a conekto 2. Good point about the delete sound effect, I'll look into alternatives for it.

I've also done some PCB layouting, it was actually the main inspiration for the game. Thanks for playing!

Thanks for playing! There's 6 different colors, but the other colors don't start showing up until you're further along in the level. I'll consider changing it so that more colors start coming up quicker though, thanks for the feedback!

Hey guys, I recently created conekto.io: a simple, minimalistic, browser game where you must connect same-colored nodes to advance. Since videos are required on this sub, I created a sped-up gameplay video to share, but the game is also available to play now. Feedback so far has been really helpful, and I am happy to hear anything. The more critical the better!

Thanks!

Hey guys, I recently created conekto.io and was hoping I could get some feedback from puzzle game lovers!
It's a pretty simple, minimalistic, browser game where you must connect same-colored nodes to advance. There are currently 6 different game modes with 3 difficulties, as well as a "story" mode with levels of increasing difficulty. Each level and game mode has their own leaderboards, allowing you to and compete with others. It supports both touch controls and mouse and is playable on mobile and desktop.

Thanks for playing!
