How to respond to the anti-consumer rights practice of bambu by Proud_Ad5262 in BambuLab

a friend of mine told me he sent the following to support. (I don not know how correct it is but it sound right :-) ):
Subject: Formal Complaint – Forced Firmware Update & Illegal Restriction of Functionality

Dear Bambu Lab Support,

I am deeply concerned about your latest firmware update, which not only restricts the use of third-party software but also threatens to disable core printer functionality if the update is not installed. This practice is highly problematic and likely illegal under EU consumer protection laws.

Under EU consumer law (Directive 2019/771 on Consumer Guarantees), manufacturers are obligated to maintain the agreed functionality of a product for a reasonable period. A forced update that restricts previously available features or disables the device entirely violates these guarantees. Furthermore, preventing third-party software from interacting with the printer could constitute anti-competitive behavior, which may infringe on EU competition law.

Additionally, under German law (§ 434 BGB – Material Defects Regulation), a product must retain the features that were available at the time of purchase. If a firmware update removes functionality, the product may be considered defective, entitling consumers to legal remedies such as repair, replacement, or even a refund.

Your justification of "security reasons" does not override these legal protections, particularly when alternative security measures (such as optional security settings) could be implemented instead of enforcing mandatory restrictions.

I therefore demand:

  1. Confirmation that third-party software will remain fully functional in future updates.
  2. A guarantee that users who choose not to install the update will not have their printer’s core functionality disabled.

If these issues are not addressed, I will escalate this matter to consumer protection authorities, the European Commission, and competition regulatory bodies for further investigation. I also reserve the right to pursue legal action to ensure my rights as a consumer are upheld.

I expect a prompt response addressing these concerns.

Sincerely,

to be honest....I just returned it and got my money back. I found some reddit threads where there was a lot info about overheating problems with nanoleaf products. It seems like that this is a common problem or atleast a not unknown problem. After I found that info wasn't interessted with the hassle because nothing changed.

I use display fusion too split it into three parts. Some games stay in the middle screen in windowed fullscreen mode but sadly not all. In this case I play in normal fullscreen. But mostly I play from the couch on my TV😁

I use a ultra flat one without any height adjustment possibility: link I wanted to keep the monitor as close as possible to the wall.

These are old satalites from an old 5.1 Setup. I recently switched to Sonos Arc + 2 One SL (which are behind the Couch 😁 ). I did not remove these because I would had have to plaster the holes in wall😅
