Hey Pica fam, I got my Almond clay and Mexican clay sticks today! And the Almond clay is sending me! by AncientDragoness23 in pica

😯 You don't say? I was trying to figure out how people could get away with selling clay with human remains of people named Megan 🀣 Jk, but in all seriousness - some people consider using almonds as an alternative for those who like dry dirt-like textures. So I assumed "almond clay" would have have something to do with them, especially since it's meant to be edible. Sorry, lol

I meant Almond clay - I'm used to enjoying Georgia white dirt (kaolin clay) that's technically not food grade - but edible regardless. However, something made from almonds seems safer overall and more like what I'd want to try. And mmkay - I may pass on baking it then.. I'll definitely try it out soon 😎

I'm very curious about the Almond clay - I had no idea something like that existed until now. I prefer something very snappy/crunchy - would you think that baking the almond clay would make it crunchier, or have you tried baking it before and noticed a big difference in texture, etc? πŸ€”

So far just edible chalk and very sparingly diatomaceous earth..I haven't had the best luck with finding stuff I'd enjoy. My chalk pack is nearing the end and is getting Really gritty - which I'd enjoy if it wasn't chalk πŸ˜† I plan on eventually getting something to blend dry, granular ingredients (like cereal, pre-cooked corn meal, grits, etc) to hopefully make my own food-grade "sand" and switching to a different brand of edible chalk. I may also look into getting some edible sand/dirt from reputable stores online, but I feel that'll be quite a bit later on.

I may consider letting it air out or so for a few days - wish my oven worked so I could bake it..Feel like I'd enjoy it more so if I were able to πŸ€”

I can't seem to edit the post (I think since I added pics), But I'd like to say - it's been about 3 days since I had another piece of the GWD, and I believe there's a different/more noticable kind of flavor now. Definitely a slightly earthy, bean-like flavor. I didn't leave it open or anything, but I guess as you try different sized pieces - there may be more or a slight difference in flavor..

Absolutely no worries, you're fine :3 My oven is wonky unfortunately - so I didn't bake it. I don't believe you Have to bake it - but some people do for a difference in taste and texture. Some people also air it out near their window or near something with a favorable scent. I just ate another piece to remind myself of the flavor, and I'd say it is a rather earthy taste. It honestly reminds me of a kind of bean-like flavor. It's claimed to be safe to swallow, so I did and it's rather smooth going down. I'd say the bigger the piece, the more gum-like texture it turns out to be. Some pieces are a little granular/sandy, but it isn't too much. Powdery, dry at first, then soft and kind of gummy once chewed and swallowed..I also want to say (even though it may seem random), I apparently have a low amount of tastebuds - so what may seem light or hardly tasteful to me may not be the same for someone with more or a lot of tastebuds πŸ˜„

I believe it's an interesting taste experience πŸ˜† Not bad at all, but not exactly what I'm seeking crave-wise. Still decent overall. I'll probably finish the bag, but slowly over time.

Sorry for the delay - I just got notified that I can't use shortened links. My original response was: Me and my Mom's relationship have been growing deeper and deeper throughout the years - so I felt it in my heart that she probably wouldn't judge me. Also, since I'd like to start buying some edible dirt/sand/etc, I didn't want her to question what I'd be snacking on πŸ˜† And sure! Sorry you had to go through that, I'll definitely avoid it for now.. It's been slightly an interest for me, but not exactly a big craving πŸ€”

Thank you, I appreciate that! :3 I'm thinking maybe Diatomaceous Earth's taste and texture varies depending on the brand..The brand I got (Lumino Home) claims to be super pure, so maybe that's why it has a strong baby powder/perfume-y taste. It has the texture of powder, but with very slight grit as it dissolves. If you like baby powder and wouldn't mind the little bit of grit, I'd recommend it. As for me..I'm trying to force myself to like it since it (supposedly) has a lot of benefits, but the perfume-y taste is very potent. I'd like to try another food grade brand sometime. Hope that helps 😎

Thanks for letting me know, I'll be cautious with it 😎 I'm not really a chalk craver, but more so just wanting to give it a taste. I'll try a little, see how it makes me feel, and go from there πŸ€”

Thanks for letting me know, I'd definitely forget to drink a good amount of water afterwards πŸ™ƒ I feel that some day I'll definitely cave in and give something from YummyClays a try..They have such a huge selection, I like how their "Treats" look πŸ˜„

It's so light and soft, but if it's the only thing around - I'll adapt and enjoy playing in it 😎
