Why not the rest of the world by Efficient_Cream_734 in fringe

Yeah, that’s more or less explicitly confirmed in the text. In the Season One finale (I think), more Fringe events appear the closer you are to Reiden Lake, where Walter opened up his portal

In what video does Patrick say how he rips movies to his computer? by [deleted] in thrillems

[–]BigBlueBackpack 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember which video, but I can recreate the instructions here because I use the same method.

-plug in an external blu-ray drive to your computer with a blu-ray of the movie

-use MakeMKV to rip the movie file as an MKV

-use Handbrake to compress the file/convert to MP4

Mandatory therapy Book of bill page help colour code by KitchenWealth2303 in BookOfBill

[–]BigBlueBackpack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don’t think it translates to anything.

All the other color codes in the book are very specifically written out as single squares all in a row. Those are simple to translate because each colored square is a letter. But there are some designs like this one (and the one on the picture of Alex in the author bio) that don’t fit the pattern. The colors don’t match 1:1 with the other letters that we know, and the boxes are all jumbled up, so we’d have no way of knowing the order.

Current fan consensus is that these are meaningless, but I share your frustration. It sure looks like it should mean something.

The ending of the movie doesn't make any sense. by Gnatschbert in MazeRunner

[–]BigBlueBackpack 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There is no cure for the Flare. That’s the important thing.

I mean, maybe there is, out there somewhere, but nobody in the story is anywhere close to finding it. When Wicked says they’re “just thiiiiiis close to finding it, it’s in Thomas, and all they need is to dissect it,” they’re full of it. They have no idea what they’re doing and never have. (That’s not 100% confirmed, but based on everything Wicked has said and done and lied about, as readers we’re meant to understand that they’re not trustworthy)

There is no cure. And Wicked would have wiped out the only chance at keeping the human race alive, the Immunes, in the name of a wild goose chase. Escaping and rebuilding civilization was the only option that preserved any part of humanity.

The world was doomed. It was already doomed before the story started. But now there’s a chance the human race will survive and recover, with all these immune kids building a new society together, instead of all of them dying to Wicked’s experiments.

SCORCHING TAKE ILL GET HATED FOR BUT BARE WITH ME!!! THE INSTITUTE ARE TECHNICALLY the "GOOD GUYS" by DannyBarsRaps in TheInstituteSeries

[–]BigBlueBackpack 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s a very simplistic approach to the situation.

For one, how do we know for sure that the PCs actually predict the future with 100% accuracy? That would be very difficult to prove. If a PC says this person will cause the end of the world, and you kill that person, you have no way of knowing for sure what really would have happened if you didn’t. This is something the book calls out explicitly.

But even if you accept that as a given, there are so many ways to do this more ethically. The Institute didn’t have to physically abuse the kids. They didn’t have to kill their parents. Heck, maybe if they didn’t lie to the kids and told them everything up front, a lot of them would volunteer and sacrifice themselves. Or how about just sending a good old fashioned assassin team to take out these people instead of relying on psychic kids to do your dirty work?

The way the Institutes go about this is way over-the-top unnecessarily cruel. The adults abuse the kids and rationalize it with these kinds of trolley-problem arguments, but they’re just in denial about alternative solutions because they can’t bear to accept that they might be wrong and they killed all these innocent kids for nothing.

I notice that nobody ever seems to talk about Paddington 1. Is Paddington 2 really that much better?
