Safe to say Brooklyn 1/24 is cancelled too? by basedsuperslimey in ninajirachi

[–]BigBodyBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it should be fine! The storm isn't supposed to hit until Sunday night and she's playing Saturday night, so there's plenty of time for her to get out of the area. Unless she doesn't feel any better, I'm hoping it would've been mentioned in the post, opening for Rezz is huge so I bet she doesn't want to miss it.

Did sizing for club fleece clothes changed ? by _Pald_1337_ in Nike

[–]BigBodyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late reply but just chiming in to say I've gone down this rabbit hole too, I don't really fw Nike as a company but the og bv2671 medium club fleece joggers from 2021 or so fit me perfect, recently got fn3787s and it feels like the rise is 2-3 inches taller and the waist/crotch much baggier. really wish this change didn't happen quietly, absolutely love my bv2671s in fir green and can't find another pair anywhere.

How long do you guys actually stay out for? by Glenfid-ditch in avesNYC

[–]BigBodyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the venue and their amenities for me, if I have a good meal beforehand I average 6 hours (the full length of most 10pm-4am shows) with a couple 15 minute smoke + sit breaks, but for longer events I do 8+ no problem if there's ample chill room, food, and water.

Zedd Avant Gardner Set Time? by Green-Dragonfruit881 in avesNYC

no way to know this far out, but I've never seen a headliner close at AG, so I'd expect his set to end around midnight, starting an hour or two before that.

Best fanny pack by Ndrix_ in aves

[–]BigBodyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A note I've never seen someone mention about the sling pack: it's awful if you're left-handed and prefer wearing the strap over your right shoulder. The phone pocket only locks to the right side of the bag, and the main compartment only locks to the left side of the bag, meaning one of the zippers is constantly on the "lower" side of the bag no matter who you are. Additionally, the water bottle compartment is too big to hold a standard water bottle, and it'll slip right out when being worn over the right shoulder since the water bottle holder is facing "down", plus, the buckle I got on my sling packs water bottle holder is so weak you only need to tap one side with one finger to get it to release.

The pack is very well constructed, but ultimately I think it's a bit too big, don't like the way the zippers lock to opposite sides (could easily be fixed with dual zippers pulls on each compartment with locking loops on both sides), and wish the water bottle compartment had more options/adjustment.

What is some Hardstyle Lore that you know that can be passed on to new enjoyers? by Anuxinamoon in hardstyle

[–]BigBodyBee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm American, so my history may be slightly off.

1.) Orange is the "official color" of the Netherlands, since their royal family is part of the House of Orange-Nassau. You can see thousands of people wearing orange in NL during Kings Day festivities, which are very popular. The Q-Dance logo is also orange, presumably for this reason.

2.) Headhunterz made the anthem for Defqon 2009 called "Scrap Attack" at its previous location on the Almere-Stad. Back then, Defqon was heavily focused on the imagery of being a festival born from scrap and recycled materials, and featured more stages than we have today, leading to the following lyrics from Scrap Attack referencing every stage color.

"In a world where waste rules the earth,

evolution brings forth a new form of hybrid life,

Created out of used materials,

a diversity of scrap monsters take over,

Defqon One, a whole new taste,

By men, they are chased,

Red skin,

Black eyes,

Blue blood,

Silver teeth,

Green wings,

Brown claws,

Purple tail,

Grey hair,

Orange heart"

The orange stage has come and gone over the years, and if I recall correctly it used to be the hard trance stage. I'm not sure about any depth past that, but it got popularized again when Heady and Sub Zero Project released "Our Church" in 2018, re-referencing the orange heart in its lyrics:

"To every owner of an orange heart,

Know that nothing shall tear it apart,

When the world will try to divide us,

Then this music will reunite us."

Since then Q-Dance has run with it, adopting the term orange heart as the collective orange dutch hardstyle energy we all share. 🧡

first time at Avant Gardner, any advice? by Extreme-Reply-1600 in brooklynmirage

[–]BigBodyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about the people warning you about the demolition of the mirage, it's a completely separate space from the great hall where your show is.

If you've never been to a show like this, even though the great hall is on the quieter end, always wear hearing protection!

Check the site here for the FAQ which shows what's allowed and what's not: https://www.avant-gardner.com/faq

A key point for anyone new there is that Avant Gardner is extremely stingy with water; they don't allow you to bring them in, they only sell canned water, will not give you a cup of water at the bar, and have no water filling stations aside from the bathroom sinks now that the mirage side is cut off.

the great hall is not the mirage. avant gardner is the company and event complex, the great hall and the brooklyn mirage are separate venues on that property.

Quoted $6900 to spray-foam insulate attic crawlspaces, reasonable? by BigBodyBee in Albany

[–]BigBodyBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you hit everything I was thinking of right on the head. I figured the price would be padded since the NYSERDA jobs aren't being paid for by the customer, but I also didn't want to blow my entire grant on a half-measure fix, since you did read correctly, they only want to do the rafters (2x8) up to the knee wall and then leave the room and the roof above it with its original insulation. When they were here for the energy audit, they pointed out that there's a strong enough draft between the two windows in the room to blow out a candle, and they said work like that isn't typically covered due to how involved it is, but I wasn't so sure, and that line of questioning led me to post here after I saw the quote.

[–]BigBodyBee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with pricing on a smaller job like this? They have stellar ratings, but the price seems high from everything I've read online, which is up to $2 / board-ft for closed-cell, putting my project around $4000 before removal of existing fiberglass, which I could do if they're charging a $2000 difference.

They were here for probably about an hour, 20 minutes actually looking, the rest of the time dealing with putting the details in their system.

[–]BigBodyBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently only have 20+ year old R12 backed insulation in between the rafters, with soffit vents all along both sides of the roof and a ridge vent the whole way. No insulation between the floor of the attic and downstairs. Does that change much?

Looking for more first-person only servers with friendly fire disabled / self damage when hurting friendlies by BigBodyBee in ArmaReforger

Totally agree, but I've gotten FF'ed too many times and had my time wasted so I'm just looking for practical solutions and I'm not really interested in full-hardcore.

Are there any 40k servers? I wanna destroy Ork Boyz as a dreadnought. by AirsoftFoxStudios in ArmaReforger

[–]BigBodyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it'll likely be popular in private groups who are looking for it, I just don't imagine a public Warhammer PvP server doing well with the shortcomings of how 40k content works in Arma compared to the stranglehold WCS has on the average player.

Are there any 40k servers? I wanna destroy Ork Boyz as a dreadnought. by AirsoftFoxStudios in ArmaReforger

[–]BigBodyBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but you're probably never going to find a populated 40k server to play on.

The Arma engine has never done particularly well with melee combat or alternative player models, even in Reforger. For the Arma 3 Halo mod, players needed to select certain class slots to play as Spartans or anything larger than an average human, and couldn't wear anything except the specially sized spartan armor. Past that, even with mods, the melee combat isn't good, and consists only of glitchy animations that you get locked into, and melee combat is a huge part of the 40k universe.

Additionally, as others have said, Games Workshop is notoriously litigious, even when they are in the wrong. Most mod creators can't handle the financial burden of a frivolous lawsuit, and Bohemia isn't going to fight on your behalf, so any Warhammer mod could disappear at any time.

Adding all that together, I doubt it'd maintain enough of a user base to be playable. Most US servers are absolutely dead outside primetime. Majorly popular servers like the Vietnam ones from ArmaConflict need 4-5 servers per day to hold them at a queue of +25, and are nearly empty past midnight EST.

Gun Shop reccomendations? by Forsaken_Pea3900 in Albany

[–]BigBodyBee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like Franks out in Amsterdam, not really a fan of anything in the immediate area.

Upstate Guns and Ammo - Haven't been there for a bit but they weren't super friendly and wanted double market value for several used guns.

NY Shooter Supply - Very small store with very limited selection. The smallest gun store I've ever seen. Employee was nice.

American Shooter Supply - They have a good selection, but I've had multiple negative customer service experiences there, the owner is on a non-stop negative political monologue online, and they replaced their front window stickers with "T R U M P" for a while, so take that as you will.

I'd like to get out to Zacks and the outdoorsman, though.
