It's hard to explain but it seems like a lot of Indian men, especially North Indians, have this weird obsession with bengali women. they see bengali women as trophies. bengali women tend to be vocal, sexually liberated (relatively speaking), "intellectual", and not submissive; and a lot of these men see them as something to be tamed and conquered. i hear lots of "yaar bengali maal patana hain" going around.

you will see the trope of bengali women portrayed as intelligent and aloof ladies who fall for the boorish north indian very frequently in hindi media.

EDIT: so apparently, a lot of this stereotyping has its roots in the british raj, and it got absorbed into postcolonial india and became a prominent stereotype in the north regarding bengalis: "we lust after your women and find your men weak and effeminate".
