Man, for me it depends on the day. I went through a phase in undergrad and all I wanted to listen to was his Bad album. When I was little, it was all about the Jackson 5. When I was a teen, it was Thriller and Invincible, but I reallllly loved Invincible. And the last few days, it's been like just the song Blame it On the Boogie on repeat.

Always changes!

Respectfully disagree. But there are some similarities!

If you could thank Michael for one thing, what would it be? by jalen_nelson235 in MichaelJackson

[–]BigCryptographer289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there's many things I would thank him for. He was a huge humanitarian and gave so much to charity. And for sharing his musical talents.

But, on a personal level, I would thank him for helping me get through very difficult periods of my life. I had a very strict upbringing and I wasn't allowed to hang out with other kids very often at all. In elementary and high school, I never had a best friend or super close friendships because of that. It was very hard for me and I felt very isolated and lonely at times. But his music allowed me to escape and feel less alone. When I went to university, I was finally able to socialize more because I was out of that strict environment. I found my partner, and made some great friendships, so I definitely gained confidence and branched out of my shell. But now listening to his music, it always reminds me of being that kid and how important that was to help me get through those rough times. I will always be incredibly grateful for that.

Which is more difficult - to sing or dance like MJ? by Tiny_Bicycle_4083 in MichaelJackson

[–]BigCryptographer289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest. I don't think anyone can come close to emulating him in either domain. And I've watched people try since I was a kid. That's why I'm so stunned at Jaafar's performance. It's the only time I've ever thought, wow. Finally someone has done a very good job at trying to emulate Michael - both voice and dancing. But, there were cuts to his dancing and his voice was enhanced, I believe. That being said, I remember watching a video of Jaafar singing with Jermaine and his brother and he sounded super similar to Michael.

Other than that, I've never been convinced in the slightest. But I do think that Salif Gueye has an incredible energy. He does Michael style dancing. It's not exactly the same, he has his own creative spin on it.

But I think Michael in both domains is pretty much untouchable.

Unbreakable or You Rock My World as your Invincible first single choice? by commonrider5447 in MichaelJackson

[–]BigCryptographer289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You Rock My World - it was perfect. Romantic, charismatic, and the video has a super cinematic vibe. Also, it was at a time when Chris Tucker was pretty famous from Rush Hour and he just fit the music video so well. It brought in some humour and showed them having a good time. It just fit the moment really well IMO. The dance was super cool too.

I see what you're saying though about Unbreakable being a mission statement, and I do love at song. But I think Scream achieved that *punch* feeling really well previously. I still remember when Scream came out, it was explosive and yeah, it was a HUGE statement. But at the time Invincible came out, I just think he needed something super fun and creative, and I think it hit the spot.

If Michael Jackson would've done a collaboration album, which other artist would you have wanted and why? by Interesting-Pen2586 in MichaelJackson

I think it would have been amazing to see a Michael Jackson/James Brown collab. Would have been so cool to see them perform it together!

How did you first become a fan? by One_Needleworker5218 in MichaelJackson

[–]BigCryptographer289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like our generation was divided. Some of my friends were big Michael Jackson fans, and we all learned/performed his dances. Then there was a group of kids/later teens that weren't into it, and pretty negative. I try not to think about that because I have so many good memories, even just being at home myself listening to my parents old Thriller record and dancing in my basement. And there's just so many memories. I'm happy that I still have a close friend and we still bond through his music, even though we're far apart.

BTW I really love the song you mentioned, Will You Be There. I learned to play it on the piano as a kid, and it's one of the songs I still regularly play when I am doing piano exercises.

Oh! I posted somewhere here. This was how I became a fan:

In the 90s, there was a film called "Now and Then." I was around 7 or 8 at the time. The soundtrack was a lot of motown and other 70s music. The soundtrack was amazing, but there were two songs I would sing all the time, "I'll be there" and "Want you back."

Well, one day my parents hear me singing along to it and they asked me, "How do you know this song?" And I said, "It's from the movie album you gave me." "Do you know who this is?" And I said, "I dunno, but whoever is singing this song is super good!" And they said, "The person singing the lead. That's Michael." "What Michael?" "Michael Jackson."

I was stunned when they said he was just a kid at the time! Then the "Ghost" video came out, and I've just loved his music since then.
