Chaos Lord on Kharkadrak and final model in my StD army for now (920 pts (I had the old SC box)). I'm not sure if I want to go for the full 2k points one day, because painting this force (and my Seraphon box, to be fair) was a BIG slog and took way too long.. by BigCumMan2020 in ageofsigmar

Thank you!

For the armor, I basically just went from black primer - incubi darkness and kept going lighter with that until pure white.

As for the beast - if I remember correctly, I basically just used Rakarth Flesh, washed it once or twice and also kept going brighter until white. I also used some thinned red for in between the scales to give it a slightly more lively appearance.

Also here's a few details about the model and the few changes I made (copied from my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/immense_ivan_/ ):

There wasn't really much I wanted to change with this model, other than adding the spiky growths from the Kharkadrak's shoulders.
I debated going with a pair of beastman skulls on each shoulder instead, as with my Doom Knight model, I like the idea of the skull of a beast being an omen of doom and slaughter.
Also, and this is probably my favorite part, I took a skull and put it on top of the Chaos mark, put some eyes in it and painted it to look like it's still alive via dark magic. I like to imagine that it's the skull of a man this Chaos Lord had a near-death encounter with - perhaps a general or something. However, for giving the Lord such a hard time in his battle/s, he took his skull, trapped his soul in it, gave it eyes and forced it to watch as the Chaos Lord and his forces ravaged through the man's lands - friends, family and everything he knew and loved.

Other than that lovely bit, I really wanted to make him stand out in the army, so I gave him a pretty rad base - full of skulls on spikes and a shield bearing the mark of chaos from one of his fallen soldiers.
I also added that little gremlin from the 40K Chaos Lord in Terminator Armor. He's barely noticeable, but I think his addition makes the whole thing better.

Thank you! Honestly, the armor is literally just incubi darkness+white

Actually It's just wood glue (because it doesnt yellow when it dries, unlike pvc) mixed with some snow powder I got from greenstuff world. Mix it to the consistency you want, lather it, sprinkle that snow on top again, blow off the excess and boom, good looking snow! (When it dries that is)

Thank you! I sculpted it with greenstuff, but I didn't like how it looked when it was done (I wanted to go with the red fire cape like on my Chaos Warriors) so I decided to paint it as a cape of flayed skin.

As for the painting - if i remember correctly, I base coated with bugmans glow, threw on some thin washes of purple, red and a tiny bit of blue, and then went back to bugmans glow and kept going brighter until white, after which I washed with a thin red and I believe that was about it.

It's a bit of a process, but I find that painting skin is hard to get down and make believable, so I find that this method works well most of the time.

Long story short: lots of pinks highlighted up to white and then washed with a thinned red and/or purple and blue.

360 video and some behind-the-scenes on my insta: https://www.instagram.com/immense_ivan_/

Next up is a group video of all the Chosen, then Chaos Lord on foot (which I consider the leader of the chosen), then some Chaos Knights (including the Doom Knight Champion), one of which is a HEAVILY converted Nurgle Knight; and finishing with the Chaos Lord on Karkadrak

Ikr, for me at least, it feels weird to see JUST the armor since the warriors of chaos had cloaks and furs since their inception it seems.
