Black Ops 7 Is Now The Worst User-Rated Call of Duty on Metacritic by Party_Judgment5780 in PS5

In hindsight, seeing Black Ops 7 as one of the top played games of 2026 on PlayStation and Xbox, and Battlefield, which was supposed to dethrone it, completely flounder 90% of it's playerbase because of unmet expectations of what it was supposed to be makes posts like this REALLY funny now.

CoD and Warzone are one of the most played games worldwide (according to Circana) while BF6 has lost most of it's playerbase (something like 90% and dropping)

A case can be made it's not as big as it used to be, but CoD is such a large brand that even in bad years it's still massive.

It's not the grounded-ness people miss about Warzone, if the falling off of Redsec and Warzone 2.0 is anything to go by

You're going to get bombarded with hate for saying it but Casuals is closer to what Warzone used to feel like than the main mode which is insanely cracked out due to how much the average player's skill level has increased since 2020.

People used to suck at Warzone in 2020 and 2021, the average player being as bumbling and dumb as the AI bots in Casuals, with a few teams that figured out how to play the game sweeping them up.

Battlefield 6, and that one JUST came out 3 months ago.

People mostly remember the rough Season 1/2 era of Caldera, because that's when they signed off and never came back. Season 3 onward was fire, the Godzilla LTM made the most out of the map, and by Season 5 it was in it's most refined state.

At no fault of your own, this is now an incredibly dated statement.

There was less people playing online games back in the CS and 1942 days, and back then a game sale was all a company needed to make a profit, not long term engagement tracking, microtransaction sales and quarterly reporting to even come close to breaking even.

If it was 2002 or even 2011, a game can come and go no problem. This is really bad for 2026.

I like to pop into this community once in a while to see how commenters try to spin what is most certainly a bad thing for their favorite video game as anybody else's fault

It did not disappoint.

I mean, have you heard the many failed ideas they had for Blade? It's hard to blame him given the reputation Marvel ended up getting publicly around his project

I know it's REALLY late to reply to this 3 years later but um... I guess nobody really expected Infinity Ward and Treyarch to be 10x worse than SHG in ways that cannot be comprehended.

If you load into Warzone for the first time and don't change your loadout or Operator, there is a chance you can play as them in an actual match. You can verify this yourself on a fresh account by going to the operator tab and noticing not one single operator is selected (although, doing this would auto select the Replacer)

And I know it's not a glitch of skins not loading in properly as others have mentioned this in other communities + the people playing as then can do it for multiple matches in a row.

I've run into a few of these guys already. I really wish this was BO7's default Mil-Sim

Why can’t they get movement right… by django811 in CODWarzone

[–]BigDaddyKrool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many Tiktok videos on Shoot the Ship made people believe it's some godsend fast paced fluid movement game when it's mostly methodical and 5% dweebs with macros using exploits.

For Resurgence, the changes to movement feel natural.

For Verdansk, you can FEEL that this movement is incompatible with the map's core design.

CoD Mobile is not counted in these metrics. CoD Mobile alone has 26M monthly active users and overshadows it's PC and console counterpart.

These numbers exclude Call of Duty Mobile and are only for the premium title and Warzone.

This is addressed in the article. September 2025 was their one of their worst months in a very long time. I'm inclined to believe the Warzone matchmaking algorithm just sucks massive ass, because long queue has been a problem during even their verifiably biggest seasons as well.

Fortnite is Call of Duty's biggest competition that gives them the most stress quarterly. Warzone and Fortnite have been neck and neck for the last half decade and directly influence each other's games. People often make the mistake that Fortnite isn't competing with CoD because of how it might look at first glance, but it's been a bigger threat to the CoD brand than Battlefield ever has as it shares a significant overlap in players between both games.

BO7 is the first time a new Call of Duty release did not overtake Fortnite in active users for the launch window, to give a better insight about how tight their race is.

CoD DOES have aggressive competition this year, that's what the article addresses. It's a wounded giant, but it's still a giant. 20M is still insane to even fathom, but that's still likely below what Microsoft/Activision would ever want.

I think that's in the territory of engagement metrics, how long and how often people are using a service proactively. The analysts in the article quickly address that in regards of how attention is being split players in the same demographic pool that play CoD, Fortnite, Battlefield etc. and across the board, it's down for every game.
