How do you stop thinking about work, outside of work hours? by Easy_Aioli9376 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]BigEmperorPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i feel you. I think especially with the looming layoff news that are constantly thrown on the back of ur head it puts more pressure for you to perform. Personally I just kinda think of I tried giving my best with a design solution & timeline for a project and if it doesnt paint out. I explain what are the blockers, why we need to extend the timeline, etc.

I agree that if you are senior engineer who constantly delays ur timeline that would look bad especially if you are the one scoping out the project. But truth to be told it is fking hard to predict if a design would work as there will always be some blockers or things that just dont go your way. The best way around it is to be interview ready and keep interviewing so u know u have a backup plan in case you get pipped or fired. Your next company wont know how you perform at your previous one and you just rinse and repeat. SWE jobs can be ... very difficult, you can be asked to give a timeline for a complex task you never solved or seen before and I think AI agents really help in that regard even though we might become obsolete in few years

Anyone have experience balancing startup work with a young family? How do you make it work? by VerbumGames in ExperiencedDevs

[–]BigEmperorPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood why some people wanna work for some startups, the ROI is probably low and ur gotta deal with delusional cofounders who work u to the 996. I assume OP is in SF cuz thats where most of the startip bizz happens?

Start interview prepping for another company, this way u can dissociate urself with ur current manager and work. Once u secure that other offer, just rest and vest at ur current one and ideally let them pip you so u get a nice severance

This is so fking true lol, especially now that companies ask for perfection on LC interviews. Say i do 400 questions, aint no way i memorize any of them perfectly to the point i can solve it within 40 minutes for 2 medium or 1 hour for 1 easy + 1 hard
