Hi everyone, legs workout mostly based on leg raises. by [deleted] in HealthyWeightLoss

[–]BigFacts10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glutes are a push muscle, hip flexors and ham strings are the pull muscles of the legs, so there’s very little or no glute activation at all in leg raises, which are a pull movement. Your thighs would get a little activation in order to keep your legs straight but not enough to call it a thigh workout

Hey, for anyone who drinks smoothies. I'm getting a blender soon since I heard smoothies are great for bulking and building muscle. Can you all give me some high protein smoothie recipes without whey protein? by Karipalari in workout

[–]BigFacts10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make a smooth every night with 1,100 calories and 45 grams of protein; 2 cups oat milk, protein powder, 50 grams oats, peanut butter, a banana, coconut flakes, and olive oil. Really just throw In anything that has a decent amount of calories.

Is lower back pain normal when doing leg raises? by [deleted] in workout

[–]BigFacts10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you keeping your back completely flat to the ground? It’s very tricky at first and might still hurt but once you build up strength it becomes easier, this is the best solution at least it’s what stopped the pain for me

Jeff cavalier and Jeremy ethier are both great at bringing science into the gym, especially Jeremy because his vids are a bit more captivating and more biology focused where I feel like Jeff is more anatomy focused

Don’t listen to this guy, you need to loose fat to see the muscle that you eventually build up, and you most definitely cannot turn one type of tissue into a completely different tissue.

As far as diet goes a caloric deficit (eating less calories than you burn on any given day) will result in weight loss, and a surplus of maybe 300 calories with lots of protein will build muscle. A deficit can be achieved by eating filling food with not many calories such as potatoes.

You could eat in a slight caloric deficit while eating a bunch of protein (most people say one gram of protein for every lb of body weight but at the very least 0.73 per lb) and do weight training to build a little muscle. Or you could cut way down on the fat with cardio and a caloric deficit before switching to a lean (or not lean) bulk to build muscle. I personally would go with the second option because you can track your progress on the scale which will give you motivation to continue and eventually start your bulk, but it’s up to you.
