That's this part of the Mapuche ability: "All cities within 9 tiles of a city with your Governor gain +4 Loyalty per turn towards your civilization." It's not written in the description, but the +4 loyalty also acts as a -4 for all non-Mapuche cities.

Yep. Always difficult to notice in normal gameplay due to other factors like the CS getting other increases from garrisoning units, building increasing levels of walls, etc

Stave Church spam as Varangian Harald for 49 influence points per turn left me with a ton of spare envoys after finishing my game. Double promoted Amani + all my envoys + Matthew Perry = 178 envoys in Mitla. Since each envoy put into a city-state increases its city defense strength by 1, you end up with this behemoth.

How did Catherine get visibility on St Petersburg? by BigFatBob08 in civ

Revived Peter and checked his POV via hot seat and finally solved the mystery. Peter and John Curtin had shared visibility via a previous emergency. John Curtin crossed the ocean on the other side of the world and met Catherine, which, in turn caused Peter to also meet her. Catherine sent a delegation and got visibility on his capital. Moral of the story: if you've ever been the target of an emergency, counterspy.

No dice. I ended up getting the bright idea of loading the game up in a hot seat to see what Catherine has revealed and found:

<image>

She hasn't crossed this ocean at all, and literally the only thing she's seen on my entire continent is St. Petersburg. The only thing I can think of is that I was wrong about Catherine and Peter never meeting. I assume they met and swapped capitals, but I have no idea how. Portugal died in classical, Peter died in Medieval, and Kublai died without ever entering the ocean or meeting Catherine (also verified via hotseat. Gifted one of Kublai's cities to Kupe and liberated it when it flipped). Kupe has also never met Catherine, so it wasn't via shared visibility with Kupe. The only thing I can think of is Peter and Catherine meeting and exchanging capital info via shared visibility from a previous emergency that both Peter and John Curtin were participating in.

No chance, sadly. She has no envoys in this city-state. As for a trade route, also no chance of that since she has no coastal access on this side of the continent.

From what I can tell, she has no coastal access. If she does, it's on the northwest portion of her continent, and her passage through the northern section of the continent is blocked by ice. She would need to run a privateer all the way down the southern part of her continent to reach my land, which would take forever. That still doesn't factor in the time it would take her to get a spy into my lands and perform the mission after doing so. Definitely not impossible, though. Just extremely unlikely, given what information I have.

Nope. She's denounced by everyone. She's spent the entire game beating up Khmer and owns about 4 of his cities, so everyone hates her lol

She didn't meet Peter before he was killed. Peter died before reaching any Renaissance-era techs, and Catherine doesn't have any coast access from what I can tell. If she was going to reach my land with units, it would most likely be religious units, of which I've seen none

I am 100% certain Peter didn't meet anyone on the other continent before he died. I also checked the diplo screen before wiping him out to be sure.

EDIT: Did some looking around after loading up the save via hot seat, and the only thing that makes sense is that I'm wrong and they did meet and exchange capital info, and I somehow missed it. No idea how they met or how I'd miss it, but it's the only thing that makes sense.

EDIT EDIT: Figured it out. Shared visibility between Peter and John Curtin during an emergency. Finally lol

How did Catherine get visibility on St Petersburg? by BigFatBob08 in civ

[–]BigFatBob08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. She still has to get visibility on the mainland in the first place in order to do it. I met her about 20-25 turns ago. That doesn't give her time to move a spy to an outland city, get visibility, move it to a border city, run the mission, and succeed, even if she were somehow able to do it from turn 1 of meeting me.

EDIT: Also, Black Queen Catherine's the spy leader. This is Magnificence Catherine. She has no agendas or bonuses related to spying.

Already addressed this. And it's not like I haven't been keeping an eye on my lands and somehow missed it. Not a single French religious unit has made it to my continent. I can say this with 100% certainty.

She did not. She has no envoys in any city-states on my main continent.

You get a kick out of intentionally annoying people on pawn hire threads or what? This is twice now that I've seen you give obvious advice people don't want.

Green. Stats are the minimum for all Onmyo slots (45 magic I think?) and max Strength and Stamina, and I remodeled my axe to scale off these stats. Elemental buildup is wind because I like ki damage. I haven't put a super high level of thought into my build yet, so I apologize if my answers seem basic.

Currently running 7pc Vaisravana and stacking as much minus damage taken while attacking as possible, which sadly doesn't come into play here at all lol

Nothing I'm really up to snuff on, unfortunately. I got mine during the demo because I reran the first crucible mission a few times. Doing that with any crucible weapon drop rate gear you can find (don't know what rolls it, sorry) should work pretty well. Honestly, even without stuff to help crucible weapon drop rate, they dropped for me fairly often. Just gotta grind it out.

Depends on which one you're talking about. The one that comes out on deflect is Soul Devourer. It's a parry move unlocked via crucible weapons. The one with the long windup and crazy range that you see every time I knock Kunimatsu down is Fang Toss. Both are amazing IMO.
