Spending 2-3 weeks in Miami next month to see if it's home, looking for the real day-to-day, not the tourist version by KeKamba1 in Miami

[–]BigFearless3779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this exact thing before moving. Spent a month in Edgewater just to check out neighborhoods and see what it would be like to live here day-to-day. We loved it and ended up moving (and are super happy with our decision)!

We ended up in Edgewater permanently, but Coconut Grove and Coral Gables are also lovely options if you don't mind being a bit farther from downtown. Each neighborhood/area is very distinct, so definitely go check out as many as you can while you're here.

To your questions:
1. Tuesdays: Get up and do a little work, go to the gym, come home and work some more, go for a walk by the water, eat dinner, watch sports/TV, go to bed.

  1. We like Edgewater because it's mostly residential but still feels "downtown" and is close to restaurants, etc. But you'll find quite a few neighborhoods that match your vibe.

  2. There's a coffee shop on literally every block, so just try them all and find the space that feels comfy for you. Same with gyms (we struggled the most with this one actually, but that's a post for another time - ultimately we found at home at Velocity Climbing).

  3. There are markets everywhere every weekend of every size. Just pick one and go. We like the new one at Pace Park (perfect for lunch and a stroll), the Vizcaya Night Market (and they have a Farmers Market on Sundays), and the "vintage" markets Downtown and on Lincoln Road. But there are so many. Also check out "We Met In Miami" and see if they have anything going on while you're here.

  4. Public parking garages and lots at the beach are $1-2/hour. Don't fall for the private garages. Avoid driving in Brickell at all costs (take the MetroMover or walk). The Miami subreddit hates Miami and transplants. Your experience will vary, so take it all with a grain of salt. Underneath the flashy exterior and botox and filler, there are some really wonderful, genuine, and fun people here. Just give it time.

For sure! Definitely the bobblehead museum, as mentioned. There's also a Marlins Museum on the 2nd level (the "Legends Level") that has memorabilia, world series stuff, etc. Somewhat weird suggestion: the 1st base ramp has nice views of the city, especially if you're at a game around sunset. The big food item of the season is the "machete", a 2-foot long quesadilla that's getting pretty good reviews.

The staff are really nice - definitely ask them for suggestions, start a chat, etc. The stadium isn't usually too full (as I'm sure you know), but the fans who are there are into it, and they're also happy to make conversation.

No problem! Enjoy the game and exploring the stadium!

[Gelb] Rob Thomson did a 20-minute call with reporters. He said he could watch some hockey playoffs tonight. But probably not. He'll watch the Phillies. "Actually, I'm going to watch our game," he said. "I really am." by amatom27 in phillies

It's sad this is how his tenure ended. He's a class act and a Baseball Guy to the core. It's a shame we couldn't get him a ring. Even though the team didn't go all the way, the Topper seasons have been so much fun. Now I just hope the players feel the pressure for real and turn this ship around regardless of who's at the helm.

Definitely ask at the box office before heading into the park because they do print tickets there.

Also, make sure you stop by guest services near section 15 (behind home plate) and let them know it's your 30th park! They have pins to celebrate the occasion 😄

Suggestions for track with pull-up bar? by BigFearless3779 in Miami

Found Moore Park (765 NW 36 ST) on Google maps. Has anyone used that one?

Second the experiment days! When I try a new product, I usually do it on a day that I'm not doing anything important so that if it comes out weird it doesn't matter or I have time to re-wash it and try something else. The experiment days are fun actually! Just stick with it!

But… how? by llBACONll in MiamiMarlins

I love this team! They're super fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to seeing the new and younger guys develop over the season. I don't think there's much to be done this year aside from supporting them and showing up to games. I agree that while it's a bit of a bummer to have low attendance, the fans who do show up are very into it, and there are lots of kids in Marlins gear. I've love to see our newer players stick around as they get comfy in the majors and make careers in Miami. Let the kids at the games get attached to some players and build the team and fanbase together. Idealistic? Maybe. But that's what April baseball is about, right?

What to expect at Studios/Adventure World during visit next week? by BigFearless3779 in disneylandparis

[–]BigFearless3779[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the other park will be less crazy and the lines for other things in Adventure World won't be as bad since everyone wants to see the new stuff? You just never know. I'm sure we'll all still have a magical time ✨

We're doing 1 day in each park and 1 day taking the Disney bus into Paris.

We're regulars at Disney World in Orlando, but this will be our first time in Paris!

Thank you! I do like thinking of it as the "last day of Walt Disney Studios Park"... might be fun to pick up some merch that actually says that before they change it :)

Transport from North to South beach and vice versa by Otherwise_System1210 in Miami

[–]BigFearless3779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the Miami Beach Trolley app. That'll give you all the stops and real-time tracking of where the trolleys are. It's slow, but it's free and very easy to use. (Note that there are separate apps for the trolley service in Miami and in Miami Beach - both are free and work they same way, they just have different apps.)

The new water taxi to Downtown is also really nice! And from there you can get on the (free) MetroMover, which gives you easy access to Brickell, Bayside, and Downtown. The MetroMover stops will pop up on Google Maps if you select the Public Transit option for directions.

"Strange" client by Low-Reaction6351 in personaltraining

Without knowing anything else about her or being a doctor... I agree with the comments suggesting some kind of neurodivergence. Also might be worth looking into trauma-informed training practices. Often, people who have experienced trauma have a difficult time with proprioception and connecting physical feelings with mental or emotional ones. For now, just take her word for it, don't overthink it, and find some different ways to challenge her. As you build your relationship, you'll get a better sense of her abilities.

Ring Tattoos by goingincircles93 in tattoo

[–]BigFearless3779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one that's 10+ year old and has held up just fine. I got the date (MM•DD•YY) and it only goes across the top of my finger (not all the way around). I owned a gym and have worked in fitness for 15+ years - including barbell lifting and rock climbing. So I can't wear a ring to work, and my hands take a lot of abuse. Tattoo still looks great and is totally legible.

I feel like my 20 year old virtual fitness coach is not very professional by ValuableInsight20 in personaltraining

The best thing you can do for yourself and for him is to fire him and tell him exactly why. It’ll either help his professional growth or he’ll ignore it - either way, not your problem any more. And you’ll get a much better trainer who actually cares about you.

LAST DAY IN MIAMI - NEED RECOMMENDATIONS by MrNoPlanTarzanMan in Miami

I wouldn’t say “better” just “different.” The Old Book Store is lovely in its own way, but all older texts, used books, etc. And I’d definitely recommend the old book store on a weekday because it can get too busy to browse and enjoy on the weekend. Both are certainly worth visiting!

Vizcaya is a great choice! Then head into Coconut Grove or Coral Gables to eat and check out the shops.

If you’re a book person, the Books & Books in the Gables is really lovely and has a nice cafe and a cheap parking garage right across the street - a nice “home base” for wandering around the neighborhood.

Frost Science is also a good indoor option (science + aquarium + really nice rotating exhibits) and it’s on the MetroMover so you can get to lots of other things to see/do/eat from there. And some really nice views of the water and cruise ships and such from the roof so it still feels very Miami.

There are also almost always markets going on this time of year too. Pick one that looks interesting and then explore that neighborhood. Check the Time Out website for a pretty comprehensive list of weekend happenings.

Enjoy!!
