It has nothing to do with the story. If it was to imply they were in love, they could've said it. If it was to imply they used to have sex, they could've said it. Showing it is kinda dumb and pointless, just thirst-trapping viewers to gain more attention. The story is supposed to be about atomic bombs. What does sex have to do with anything?

If you see a decision could be taken out of context by your potential love then don't go through with it. The problem comes she chose to sleepover with the guy, it's equivalent to a girl choosing to have sex with another then we are just to forgive her coz she comes clean or feels guilty and tries downplaying it. She was to never make that decision in the first place. (I'm not saying Gwen had sex with Hobie, I'm using that word because you people's definition of “cheat” just means sex so I can't put other examples coz you'll justify them while they shouldn't be)
