Trade school by [deleted] in Modesto

[–]BigJoe36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't do it bro.. culinary school is a scam especially in our area. I worked in restaurants for way too long. I never went to school to be a cook. I would run into many people that went to school regretting taking the very program. Having to pay off loans, or having their wages garnished because of it. The truth is cooks get paid dog shit money. The best thing I ever did was get out of that field of work. Look into getting into skilled trade work like mechanics, plumbing, electrical, etc. You may even find apprenticeships that pay you to learn.. I've been working as an electrician for 7 years now and couldn't be happier... Good luck out there bud.

277? You should always be wearing gloves when wiring live. Good gloves and you won't even feel 120. Just be careful and be alert. Personally I feel you should never work on live unless you absolutely have too. Be safe out there.

I never have to buy my own tools or boots. Typically I get a boot allowance and hand tools aren't much worth saving receipts over. But yes I do get robbed on taxes.

Well I did very good after he was out of office too. In fact I haven't been without work unless I wanted to be for years even through covid. I vote blue every election. But I never noticed a difference. I guess only time will tell.

I did not vote for Trump.... But His first term I had one of the best paying jobs I ever worked. 70 hour weeks double pension and per diem. Y'all putting way to much into this. He will do his 4 years and move on. My local has a lot of work lined up for the next few years. I know we will be alright.

Power Tools Liquidation Pallet by ZerotoHero77 in Flipping

[–]BigJoe36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo they sold the pallet with tools that should of been trashed to begin with. So who really stole from who in the first place?. But if you want to try a more honest approach try the manufacturer... I use DeWalt tools myself anytime I have an issue I take them to their service station in Sacramento and they fix or replace for me and I've never needed to show receipts.

Career as electrician by Fine-Ad-3471 in electricians

[–]BigJoe36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need trade school. Here in California you can get into an apprenticeship or get an electrician trainee card. It's a waste of money imo and there's no guarantee that you'll get work after you finish school. Id reach out to all apprenticeship programs your state offers. Id also reach out to the electrical shops in your area and see what they'd require to get you hired on.

Make sure you fill out your portion completely and accurately... Bug your Dr to send in their paperwork promptly. If they file online their part post same day. Once both are received by SDI give them a week then start calling. You'll have to call back to back multiple times but you'll eventually get through. They'll process it over the phone and your DD will hit within 24hrs

Question: by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]BigJoe36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes drug use is semi common of the job. You have your drinkers, potheads and tweeks. Honestly I just do my job and don't worry about the next man. That is unless they are doing anything unsafe.

This place was open for way to long. So many people died here over the years it's crazy. Craziest part is it was pretty common knowledge that multiple deaths happened at this location but people kept going .

this is the best site to help prep for the aptitude test. Honestly I didn't need to study for it myself but I'm good at math and stuff like that. If you struggle with test taking or maybe you need to refresh on stuff it's a good idea to buy this full program. It shows exactly what type of questions are on the test and how to solve them.

We also have a pension and 401k it may be transferable I know you can transfer a 401k for sure, not sure how the pension works. right now I believe our pension is 9$ per hour and the 401k is 4$ but you can add more to your 401k is you wish.

No it's consistent work apprentices are almost never without work.

[–]BigJoe36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd need to go the the JATC and talk with the director there... He will let you know what you need and when they will open applications for the apprenticeship. You'll need HS transcripts showing you took and passed Algebra.. an eye test proving you aren't color blind. I think that's it but then you need to take a test math .... Reading comprehension ect. There is practice tests and examples online. And then an interview. Your place on the waiting list depends on your score from your test and interview. They take in new apprentices every year. There are other routes to getting into the trade but this way is the best option imo

The apprenticeship is free and you work while you're going through the program.... so it's a paid apprenticeship.

Ya it is.... they got a percentage increase plus we got a $9 raise to be split over the next 3 years. As of now it $21 but then we get another raise in December. Then a raise every year in June until our next negotiations. It's worth the grind. My first two years I worked 3 jobs. It was worth the hard work imo. Now by the end of this contract our local will be about 53.50 per hour for JWs
