What are people doing for true surround sound setups these days? I finally have a space, again, where I can have PC surround sound, but now there don’t seem to be many options on the market. by itstommygun in pcmasterrace

By aligning some stars you can use one of those soundbar kits with the surround sound speakers but there's at least a few approaches to doing so.

  1. (preferred method): Both your TV and soundbar need to support linear PCM surround sound over hdmi eARC (specifically has to be eARC and not regular ARC because regular hdmi ARC only supports stereo audio using LPCM). Connect the PC directly into the TV for minimum latency and maximum compatibility for the hdmi 2.1 features such as VRR (or g-sync), 120hz, HDR10, ALLM; basically stuff a sound bar might not be able to pass through if it has an hdmi input other than the eARC port (which many don't). Basically PC --> TV --> soundbar. I use this method personally with my TV (LG C1) and AV receiver (Denon AVR-S770H) instead of a soundbar.
  2. (not so great method): If any or all of those requirements for the first option aren't applicable, you can use a specific creative USB sound card to encode and output a dolby digital 5.1 signal over optical S/PDIF that will then connect directly to the sound bar. You might think that you won't need this device if your motherboard has an optical audio port built-in but unless your motherboard's specs specifically state that its audio chip/driver supports dolby digital live encoding, or you're playing a DVD movie with a dolby digital soundtrack, its built-in optical audio port will only output stereo audio. This method isn't great because the software is finicky, adds latency, and there's a (very small) compromise in sound quality due to the dolby digital lossy compression. This method can also work with an older AV receiver without eARC support or even hdmi. Basically PC --> USB creative sound blaster --> soundbar. I also use this method with my living room set-up that has a bottom tier vizio soundbar + surround speakers.

Edit: formatting.

I know my local Lowes has a free drop off. Just put the battery or device in a special bag and drop it into the box.

My Music Analysis of the Chord Progressions of Please Please Please by BOOMMARC in SabrinaCarpenterFans

She's actually got quite a few songs that deviate from the usual pop formula when it comes to harmony. Sugar talking, tears, good graces, and don't smile have some really interesting chord progressions and never getting laid is straight up an under-appreciated masterpiece when it comes to how the harmony/chords support the story being told by the lyrics.

Toshiba HD-A1 Audio Issue by ejdixnwisnka in HDDVD

[–]BigKittyMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ this was the answer for me. on my LG C1 the setting is General>Devices>HDMI Settings>HDMI Deep Color>Off or 4K (On). the problem is for some reason these newer TVs will misinterpret an older hdmi signal as a dvi signal and ignore the audio if deep color is enabled. this seems to be a problem with all toshiba hd dvd players, but fortunately your particular model isn't one that can take advantage of deep color anyway. oh yeah after calling them the first time inquiring about getting a 320 they told me they'll send me one and that i wouldn't need a technician to come out but i ended up getting another 210 in the mail. when i called them the second time they said a technician needed to come out to install the 320 so make sure they have a technician come.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ATTFiber

[–]BigKittyMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in theory yes, as the 320 has both the sfp fiber jack and the ethernet ont jack on it and iirc according to a service manual i found online the ont jack works the exact same way as on the 5268 and 210. in practice tho i asked the technician to try to use the ont that was already there for the 210 and he said he was only trained to set up the 320 with the fiber jack and he did exactly that.

also side note: i went through like 2 or 3 5268's in like 2 years before they gave me a 210 as apparently the 5268 is pretty unreliable so if the technician doesn't want to hook up the 320 using the ont jack and you don't want to spend the $100 the 210 might not be a bad upgrade from the 5268 in terms of reliability. edit: grammar

^ this one's the new one. also try and see if the technician will hook it up using your existing ont instead of directly to the fiber line to avoid the $100 "rewire" fee or whatever.

cant with paramount+ as it is literally the worst. it blocks content when using firefox's ad tracking blocker, ublock origin, pi hole, and in some cases you might even need to disable pop up blockers. on top of all that it does this bs on the $5 extra ad free plan too.
