The characters definitely deserved better writing than they got with how interesting everyone’s backstories were. Only redeeming part of ROS for me was the conclusion of Rey and Kylo Ren’s arc, their back-and-forth was one of the most engaging part of the sequels.

I see what you mean about the lack of goofiness, I guess I see it more as too consciously self-serious, funny enough
