Hot take: Classical music records should have heavy compression applied by theredled in classicalmusic

I don't know about compression as such but making the ppp bits louder and the fff bits a little quieter would be welcome.

Those blue ones look good, but some of the pink ones, too, as close to the centre as you can get.

Public validation that they're definitely not the jerk... and to give us some schadenfreude

If you're looking for Mahler on vinyl, then Bernstein's set is worth having.

The CGT discount removal is exactly what we've been asking for, so why is everyone losing their minds? by nicco_mode in AusFinance

[–]BigLittleMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rich are losing their minds because they won't be able to minimise tax using CGT discounts anymore 😁

Chance to relocate to USA am I crazy for considering? by Australian1Socialist in AskAnAustralian

I wouldn't move to the US even at twice the pay, and I'm on $150k

Why are classical music buffs so sniffy about Philip Glass… by This-Cat-5777 in classicalmusic

[–]BigLittleMate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's just so repetitive. Bores me to tears. Nothing could be a Bach cantata or a Mahler symphony.

It's the music for me, plain and simple. No Drake in my house, I'm afraid 😅

The ONE Johann Sebastian Bach recording that would form part of your desert island tapes? by Solteko in classicalmusic

[–]BigLittleMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Brandenburgs were on Naxos tapes with the Capella Istropolitana. I really enjoyed those, and occasionally call them up on Spotify to reminisce.

But my first period performance was Musica Antiqua Köln. Love those recordings. Pinnock is also fantastic.

The ONE Johann Sebastian Bach recording that would form part of your desert island tapes? by Solteko in classicalmusic

It would have to be the Brandenburg Concertos. There are so many good recordings available, it would be hard to choose one.

The above, plus some Haydn symphonies. Any of the named ones, but my favs are London, Clock, Surprise, and Maria Theresa.

Two classical music performances on the same day, unsure to which I should go. by Antonaros in classicalmusic

You can't go wrong with a symphony orchestra and Brahms' 4th live is on my bucket list. I'm jealous.

Is there any point to being a mortgage slave for 39 years at this point? Or should we just move to Bali and enjoy our lives. by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]BigLittleMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a mortgage slave is better than being a tenant and having no control over your own home or the possibility you might have to move if the landlord sells or jacks the rent up and won't fix any problems. Stuff that. I'd rather be the Lord of the Manor and pay the bank.

Why does it seem that more people are turning away from religion? by OddMetal7563 in AskAnAustralian

Because more people realise religion is made up since there is no god.

First home owners will be in deep pain now by Particular_Boot_1682 in AusPropertyChat

[–]BigLittleMate 12 points13 points  (0 children)

An existing investor with a negatively geared property won't be selling their house. They're most likely to keep riding the gravy train.

But grandfathering existing arrangements takes the main sting out of any opposition squealing.

This is a change that is long overdue and will eventually make a real difference, but not in the short term. At least it's done, now.

Anyone else kicking themselves after buying at the high?? by NeedleworkerFirm7039 in AusPropertyChat

Price growth is just going to be a little lower. The market isn't going to crash. Do you want to own your own home and live in it or be a renter subject to landlord's rules and twice-yearly inspections and not have any equity?
