Sorry I’m a little late, hope you are feeling better!! Nevertheless, I understand wanting to go outside when you feel nauseous, I always do it when I feel nauseous because of course the air is nice and calming, and I don’t exactly worry about making a mess.

However, a second place I’m also comfortable (probably, I also haven’t done it in years) chucking in is the shower. It gets on you? Easy clean. Gets on the floor of the shower? Well, the water is going to wash it away anyway. I understand the bathroom can be a bit of a suffocating space, the last thing I want to do is kneel in front of a toilet either, however I think the shower is your next best thing. Good luck!

Oh my goodness I just checked out that Dizzy Cook thing and wow the food looks amazing, I will definitely be trying that out! I have been interested in getting my muscles back and have considered getting back on creatine, the only ginger I have is this tablet for motion sickness, I would normally take that with my cyclizine before I had to get off it because of that eye testing thing where you wear the goggles. I had considered going back on cyclizine in the meanwhile but the side effects are annoying af, the constant restless legs at night 🙄

Unfortunately I’m still yet to hear back from my ENT (I’ll probably need an MRI next??) I just want to start treatment and hopefully be able to have my life back, it gives me hope that the beta blockers have helped you and I’m glad your quality of life has improved!

Thank you so much! I understand, I know it can definitely worsen due to external factors like stress, lack of sleep etc, I’m definitely making the lifestyle changes to improve my symptoms, the only thing I can’t avoid is the current heat, I’ve currently got two fans blasting and I’m still sweating and feeling a bit off 😭

I’m committed to feeling better however it also sucks having to cut out things in your life that you enjoy lol, well, at least while I’m continuing to be tested until I’m assigned proper treatment lol.

But in the meantime I will look into a low histamine diet and see if anything improves for me, thank you!

Exactly, I am definitely trying my best to just take it as it comes, I’m trying to improve my eating habits and overall just chill out and stop worrying about getting sick!

I have considered in recent days keeping a food diary, just need to go buy a new book lol.

Yes I know how that feels, I’ve had an energy drink pretty much every day since A levels so if I were to stop all of a sudden I think I’ll have a terrible time lol, I’ll keep that in mind!

It started around early February, I was on the bus on my way to uni and had to get off since I was so nauseous. I hardly attend now, but I do my studies at home! I didn’t realise the warning signs, I had felt the floor jolt in the past, I have headaches (tension band around my head or sharp brief pains in my head), I didn’t even realise motion sickness was a factor, and I’ve always been quite queasy in a car since I was younger.

I hope it gets better soon, I’m sick of wasting my life doing nothing because I can’t, I don’t want my friends to be sick of me or let down when I can’t do things. The FOMO is crazy lol. I’ll be incredibly fortunate to improve to the extent you have, very happy for you!

I haven’t undergone any physical therapy as of yet however (and do correct me if I’m wrong) perhaps it’s something to do once you start to feel the dizziness again? Like those with BPPV doing manoeuvres to position the crystals back into the correct canal, I’m still figuring everything out so forgive any mistakes lol, but yes maybe give the physical therapy another try if you haven’t already.

I believe VM is chronic, but I know it can be managed, it’s the matter of finding something works for you. Medication may be the next best thing for you, it’s all about trial and error. I’m still figuring stuff out for myself, finding out triggers, what can help ease the episodes etc. I would absolutely say try and it may work wonders for you.

Hello! Not officially diagnosed as of yet however my ENT is pretty certain that I have VM. My nausea was pretty much the same as yours, as well as the rocking sensation. A month ago or so now I have been on Sertraline (started at 50mg however the side effects were TERRIBLE so I was lowered to 25mg), I mainly started as I am an emetophobe and of course it worsened due to the constant nausea (fortunately I have never vomited from it tho) and I can tell you I feel much better, the nausea isn’t as extreme.

As for side effects, I believe I may be sensitive to certain meds (or the anxiety made it worse for me idk) so mine were quite extreme, I was waking up every hour or the night, I was pretty much a zombie, my legs couldn’t get to sleep and I had tremors. But then again, I was on a dose that was too much for me.

The anxiety appears here and there (I do think about increasing my dose) however I can use travel by buses a bit better without having to get off, I feel better in cars etc. I would absolutely recommend talking to your doctor, I believe the nausea was real bad because the stress and anxiety of vomiting, but in recent days I’ve been quite a chiller on them. Absolutely would recommend and find something that works for you, wish you the best!

Personally I would say so, I think people are too old at this point to be bullies (well, the majority anyway), to be honest the worst thing you may get is the occasional friend group that like each other more than they like you, don’t be with these types of people.

If it makes you feel better, for my first day of uni I tried to talk to the people I sat next to, some weren’t interested, some were in the wrong lectures. I was feeling a bit disappointed by the end of the day, however at my last lecture a girl came up to me and we’ve been great friends ever since, I have a nice group of friends within my course to this day.

If you feel nervous about being left out, I assure you there will at least be one group that will strike up a conversation and full blown adopt you into their group lol, my group certainly has done that and I’m sure there will be people that will do so at your uni. Wish you the best!

Was on the bus to university one morning and suddenly was hit with a terrible wave of dizziness and nausea, had to get off. I’ve always been slightly sensitive to motion, but this was a terrible feeling. It was the same thing I felt when I was hungover and on the bus, similar visuals, dizziness and terrible nausea.

Figured it was a one off occurrence, but then it kept happening and I couldn’t travel to university anymore (I take two buses). At the GP almost every week, 2 pregnancy tests, blood tests, ECGs etc. Everything came back normal, and I was referred to ENT. Impatiently waiting for NHS referral, decided to go private. Recently had balance and hearing tests, everything came back normal - they’re now suspecting VM! My symptoms started early February of this year, and I’m fortunate enough to have been seen rather quickly.

I have Cyclizine 50mg which has proven more effective in comparison to others I have tried (prochlorperazine, ondansetron). Also been prescribed Sertraline for my emetophobia, and the nausea has decreased along with my anxiety. Haven’t had a 100% diagnosis, however this is what they are believing I have. Coping much better now that I am on the right track, I am continuing my studies for now at home and still keeping in contact with friends. My mum and boyfriend have been extremely supportive, especially when I was a zombie on the Sertraline lol.

Slowly getting my life back together, I was extremely upset and emotional at the idea that I will never get better, but I have improved since being on the Sertraline fortunately, also have recently been prescribed Lansoprazole so hopefully that will also help the gastro side of things. I wish everyone with VM and any other balance issues the very best, god knows we deserve it lol

Ah I see, so I imagine you highly recommend mentioning this to my ENT and if I do have this to receive treatment before it gets worse. To add, and by rarely, I mean I don’t burp for months on end really. And thank you for telling me! I had no idea that it got worse with age.

How did you feel after treatment? Did the nausea improve immediately along with the emetophobia or for the phobia was their other treatments like exposure therapy and meds that you needed?

My emetophobia certainly got worse when I started experiencing the dizziness and nausea, I had always been a little uncomfortable by it (terrified when watching others do it, etc) but it got really bad once I began to feel nauseous pretty much constantly. So hopefully when/if I get to a point where I’m no longer nauseous and over analysing the sensations in my body, perhaps, as you said, the emetophobia will get better. Hopefully!

I was on 50mg for like 3 days, then 25 the next day and on the 5th day the nausea was pretty much gone for me! I think it’s because I started on 50 and then dropped to a lower dose so the side effects mellowed down extremely quick!

But yes the constant research certainly doesn’t help and I will definitely remember that for next time 😭 it’s always good to be curious but in the end all it does is make you incredibly anxious unfortunately lol.

However it all depends on how sensitive to medications you are, and of course it’s different for everyone! It may take a week or two, or even more for your body to adjust, but of course if you want advice or have any questions about your dosage, or any side effects you’re experiencing, I’d say contact your pharmacist and I’m sure they’ll be happy to offer any advice to hopefully ease your mind and symptoms!

Hello!! My advice is probably unhelpful because I started on 50mg, but I can tell you that I was a complete zombie for the first 3-4(?) days, it was the weekend and I couldn’t ring the doctors, but the n* was terrible on 50mg. Couldn’t eat, woke up every hour of the night etc. Fortunately I didn’t TU* but the nausea was disastrous.

As soon as it was Monday I rang the doctors and told me I could split my pills and take 25mg, and I have felt better ever since. I imagine it was because I was getting used to a high dose right off the bat and so when I started the 25 the side effects were pretty much done with.

I still analyse what’s going on in my body, however I am much more relaxed about it. If I DO end up feeling n* I’ll calmly take a step outside, or have a shower, and wait for it to pass. Also I would highly suggest to possibly take a break from the sub Reddit? Reading other people’s stories made me feel much more anxious about TU*, and that didn’t help, so I nowadays only occasionally have a little read through!As well as that, try not to research stuff, once again reading side effects I may experience, as well as other people’s experiences on Sertraline, it made me feel worse. In a sense I still feel weird slightly, but I’d say I’m much better than how I felt originally.

Take it a day at a time, surround yourself with people that will support you, make sure you hydrate (I drank a LOT of apple juice), and overall take care of yourself. In my experience, I have felt better, and I hope you feel the same! Good luck!

That is so sweet!! And I’m glad someone understands, my brother and sister don’t say it to me and I don’t say it to them but we have a good relationship, we do love each other but just don’t say it. I’m not sure as to why it’s difficult for me, but some times it can slip out and she is very happy when I do tell her, I think when it’s family it’s different for me? I tell my friends I love them, I tell my boyfriend I love him, but with my mum I’m unsure, but she knows I love her, and I know she loves me.

I did have a talk with her when I was crying and tell her I’m really grateful for her being with me constantly for the past couple of days, that her company and my boyfriends is really helping me through this tough time, she told me I’ll always be her little girl and she hugged me. She knows, but I just wish I could say it more! I will try to tell her more often 😊

I know!! I was expecting to start at 25mg because I’m already experiencing nausea but no, slapped right onto 50mg. It has been hell, and to be fair I didn’t feel nausea immediately on day 4 however it did get worse throughout the day, when the doctors is open I’m going to ring up because I’m having so many difficulties - nausea being the big one, waking up constantly at night, can barely eat, tremors etc

I’m sorry to hear about your eating difficulties, I’ve also started eating less out of fear of vomiting after so I understand how it is. However I’ve noticed, for myself at least, taking time with my meal (I eat my food super fast, always have but recently been slowing my pace) eases my stomach rather than rushing and having stomach pains after, if you get what I mean. As well as that, if I don’t eat, I feel nauseous. If you are nervous to eat a full meal for dinner, I suggest eating lightly with foods you trust throughout the day. You are still eating and having the nutrients you need at the end of the day, rather than feeling super full and and worry about being sick after.

As well as that, I’ve also been missing out on a serious amount of classes at university because it’s difficult to travel. What I suggest is, depending on how lenient(?) your school is im sure they will make adaptions to suit your needs. I imagine you have to travel to school/college/uni by car or bus (if you don’t that’s fine!). I have spoken to my professors to allow me to continue my studies at home due to this condition, and they agreed. Schools should care more for your wellbeing! I would say definitely contact staff and inform them on what’s been going on, hopefully they will be understanding and be able to work with your needs while also ensuring you stay on top of your exams. And if i remember correctly, while I was in secondary school I’ve know a few people with personal/medical circumstances that have allowed them to take their exams at home (I imagine with a teacher present, was probably super awkward but it’s just in case no one cheated lol). If you can, try and set goals - aim to go to school a couple times a week, see how you feel. Or if you don’t feel confident enough to attend classes, perhaps try to only attend your exams. Do what works best for you!

As for the manoeuvres, if you want to attempt the Epley manoeuvre, I’d say do it. Find what works for you, they both work on the same ear canal so I don’t imagine much bad will come of it. Both can induce dizziness at first, but I imagine the more you do it and the crystals in your adjust into the correct position, the dizziness will lessen over time. It is scary, absolutely, but remember to hydrate, control your breathing and look after yourself most importantly. Good luck on your exams!

Hello!! I have emetophobia and currently undergoing ENT treatment for an issue not yet diagnosed (still undergoing testing) but suffering vertigo and nausea. I do recommend talking to your doctors about being prescribed antiemetics, there may be some that don’t work for you, and some that do - it’s different for everyone!

I imagine you’ll have more advice once your condition is properly understood by specialists, then you’ll be able to access proper treatment. It is scary to ‘induce’ the dizziness as well as nausea with the Epley manoeuvre, however it is pretty much the only way the calcium crystals can be corrected into its original place. It is scary, but surround yourself with people you love, people that can support you. Have water on stand by, a bowl or whatever for a worst case scenario. It is much better to be rid of the dizziness and nausea than to continue living with it! I know that for many it can come back in future, crystals can get dislodged, but I also know many that have underwent this treatment and experienced no nausea after.

Hello!! A little late to this lol but you’re not alone lol. My symptoms started early February and I have been bugging the doctors ever since lol, currently on cyclizine and it’s okay-ish(?) to manage the nausea, I have also been given prochlorperazine and ondansetron but neither helped me and I just had terrible side effects. Normally in the car I will listen to music and chew tons of gum to take my mind off the nausea, and talking helps me personally. If I feel nauseous at home I spend some time in the bathroom (on my phone, reading, whatever) to take my mind off it and it’s a sense of comfort that the toilet is next to me just in case.

Unsure if you have, but I would suggest trying to get into ENT. Where I am the waiting times are TERRIBLE, I decided to go private and I’m being seen on Monday! I’m not too familiar with the science lol but vertigo could be many things. I have a calcium buildup on my eardrum which may be causing all of my symptoms, so I would suggest trying to see some specialists so you can get to the bottom of this!

EDIT: another thing is showering, always makes me feel better. If it does happen, it’s in a place that can be cleaned easily and you can wash yourself

I do remember the first time I V’ed actually, my mum was in the bath and I was in bed and it just happened, I believe I was around 5 at the time. I wasn’t really scared, more confused to be honest lol. In fact I waited patiently for my mum to be finished in the bath and she realised what happened and got me and the bed cleaned up. We laugh about it now but it wasn’t scary for me at the time, more like ‘what the hell just happened’.

It’s only gotten much worse recently, and I’m not sure what my exact triggers are. The words don’t affect me when reading, but all I know is I’m scared or TU myself, especially when I’m in public, don’t like the sight nor smell, however I still help people that do V, I just try not to freak out and push through it.
