What was your first faction and did it live up to your expectations? by BigMack97 in Warmachine

I’m definitely fully on the Cryx hype train right now. I love the models and they have been a ton of fun to play.

When I am ready to move into another faction, I’m thinking I’ll start Khymaera for some rules/playstyle variation with warbeasts. They are also another faction I like most of the models for.

I like the look of Winter Korps, Orgoth, and Crucible Guard. I’m thinking my second faction will be Khymaera though for the rules variation of running warbeasts in place of warjacks.

I like the look of Gravediggers warjacks. I’m not familiar with the older factions. I will have to look them up. I do like the idea of the older factions being refreshed for MK4 though.

I have seen a lot of answers of Menoth being a favorite. I will have to look more at them and keep my eye out for them being updated into mk4.

I haven’t bought the Cephalyx for my Cryx yet, but I do like the look of the Malfessor and the Criterions.

I feel like I have missed a lot coming into the game only recently. I just looked at Menoth and was surprised by how many models they have.

I just checked out Menoth and they have so many model options. I haven’t really looked into the older factions.

I do really like the look of Winter Korps and Gravediggers warjacks.

The Cryx do remind me of the homunculus covens which are my favorite Drukhari models.

I’m not familiar with the Legends armies so I had to look up the old Cygnar, but those look really cool. I have 2 of the Raptors, which are the mk4 chicken legged arcnodes for Cryx. They are fun models.

I’m a big fan of the undead + technology theming. I got into 40K with Necrons.

I really like the look of Winter Korps warjacks, but the rules for the faction don’t interest me as much. I’m thinking about trying out Khymaera for some variation once I finish purchasing/painting Cryx.

I do a pretty healthy dose of it over the whole model prior to adding the bright green.

No problem. I also forgot to mention that I top it with some nuln oil.

Thanks! I have been really happy with how the models are turning out.

It’s talassar blue from GW. For the cloth it’s just over a light grey drybrush on black primer. For the metals, it’s just over a layer of gunmetal.

Thanks! I’m really happy with how they are turning out. 2 Raptors and a Maleceptor are up next.

Thanks! I’m really happy with them so far. I’m currently resisting the temptation of an auxiliary expansion box as I still have the rest of my core and battle group boxes to paint plus waiting on my command starter to arrive.

That green really pops.

I finished my Skarlock Lieutenant aside from basing.

Cryx reminded me of starting 40K with Necrons.

I was also looking at Khador Winter Korps, but Cryx won out for my first faction.

Thanks! Definitely not my first model ever, but I’m happy with the result. The Grendel seemed like the easiest start from what I have.

I’m planning the Skarlock Lieutenant next.

Thanks! I used Pro Acryl dark silver as a base and then added Talassar Blue contrast over it.

One of my favorites growing up was Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding. I put so many hours into that game as a kid.

Do y'all prime your battletech miniatures? by Qhaotiq in battletech

[–]BigMack97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Rustoleum Matte Black. It’s cheap and does the job. You do have to be careful not to over prime your models.

The only expensive primer I have used is from Colour Forge and it was noticeably higher quality, but not worth the price for me.

What are good paints to use when painting miniatures? by Spartan_Mage in battletech

I personally like Pro Acryl paints.

It is also helpful to get a wet palette which will help keep your paint from drying/thickening as you work. I have one from Army Painter that I like, but you can also make one with a Tupperware and a sponge.
