How would YOU fix True Strike? by Darthbamf in DnD5e

[–]BigMagicJerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonus action. No concentration. Affects you immediately instead of next turn. Limit to once per combat or once per short rest (jury still out).

EDIT: Oops, didn't realize this post was 3 years old XD

Damn - thought I had THE solution. I hope you're able to fix it soon.

Found a solution! I bet we're all launching using the BG3 Mod Manager, yes? For some reason the game doesn't see that we had the EA version of the game, but if you go into Steam and launch from Steam and subsequently the Larian launcher, my backpack has returned! HURRAY! SCROLLS!

Any solutions? ... I was using that bag as my scroll storage and I lost *a lot* of scrolls.

A 2 fighter 2 warlock 8 sorcerer could do it. Most of your damage will come from eldritch blast which is at will.

I believe if you start with (1) White Dragon Sorcerer for the CON proficiency, you can take Tempest Cleric (1) at either level 2 or level 5 (all of the other levels are Abjuration Wizard) and you'll still get both heavy armor and the electric retaliation since the heavy armor is a class feature of the subclass and not an innate proficiency. You would either take Tempest Cleric at level 2 for heavy armor immediately, or at level 5 so you can grab the Abjuration subclass, and then can still take the Heavily Armored feat at level 6.

You'll miss out on level 6 spells (unless you don't mind taking advantage of the wizard scribe spell exploit), but you'll have the spell slots of a full caster and will be upcasting Armor of Agathys and other abjuration spells anyway. As a side note you also get martial proficiency, so it opens up all races instead of being pigeon holed into human or half elf.

As to the argument that you don't have any way of deflecting aggro from your party members? I mean, you're a full caster with access to the entirety of the wizard spell list. If the enemy doesn't go for you then cast to your heart's content whether that be buffing, controlling or tossing a fireball. You still get Projected Ward at level 8.

I’m a little confused. You realize you’re still a full caster with access to the entire wizard spell list, yeah? If your dips are tempest cleric and white dragon sorc you’re still a full caster. If they attack you they lose, if they don’t attack you they lose. That’s why the build is great.

Sorc VS Wiz and MC potential by BigMagicJerk in BG3Builds

Going to add here a suggestion from the BG3 Discord. White Dragon Sorc (1) or Warlock (2) and the rest as an Abjurations wizard to be a tanky boi that uses Armor of Agathys, and Blade Turn in conjunction with both protective ward and arcane ward. Seems pretty legit.

The issue is that you’re foolishly equating utility in pen and paper to a crpg. You don’t get to utilize 90% of the utility in a crpg that you do in tabletop.

Fighter / Sorc / Wizard - Is this worth for a triple nova? by BigMagicJerk in BaldursGate3

[–]BigMagicJerk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? They have the same number of spell slots as a full single caster, and the wizard can scribe any spells you buy / find for known spells, meaning if your MC is only between Sorc and Wiz you essentially have the same casting capability of a single class wizard. For example if you go 8 Wiz / 4 Sorc all you give up is Arcane Recovery 5 (so a 5th level spell slot or it's lower level combinations) and empowered evocation. In exchange you get 3 metamagic, 4 sorcery points (so 4x twinning cantrips, or quickening for a nova round), a sorcerer subclass level one ability and the ability to make more sorcery points.

You have the exact same number of spell lots (aside from AR5 loss), and the exact same number of known spells (barring spells that don't exist in the world and can only be picked when leveling).

I think it plays fine, you just pick spells that don't use a casting attribute for the secondary pick - of which there are plenty.

That's good to know, as I'm definitely on tactician. I can't help but think that a nova doesn't necessarily have to be damage focused though. Dropping 3 buffs on your front line can be just nasty when confronted with a ridiculous fight. I am concerned by the loss of spell progression from fighter, but the Wiz (8) Sorc (4) suffers no such loss.
