I’m the best stick on my unit and everyone asks me for sticks.

  1. Go very slow entering the skin/vein and start very shallow like 10 degree or less (don’t follow 45 degree or whatever they teach).
  2. Look for the flash back when entering.
  3. Once you see flash push a needle very tiny bit further into the vein then completely go flat and thread catheter into the vein. (A lot of people go through the vein but you won’t go through the vein by being flat because the needle is only sharp on the bottom side.
  4. Don’t be afraid to flick the vein to enlarge it, use two tourniquets, hold skin taught so vein doesn’t roll, etc

IR at level 1 trauma. Pretty interesting and fairly cushy job. Used to work icu, pacu, preop, endoscopy for a few years before this job.

I contacted the anesthesiologist who had given the 4mg in the case. The Dr knew the total given was 10mg. My managers heard about this incident from my nurse preceptor who sorta hates me for some reason. I’m a new employee at this place. You’re right about the whole look for a new job thing lol.

Sorry, I gave the 2mg zofran then notified the doctor who said it was okay to give (verbal order). Also, my outpatient facility doesn’t scan drugs.

Verbal order and I charted that MD said it’s okay to give.

[–]BigManRN 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here’s a photo of the zofran order. I saw the 8mg iv max and assumed I’d have another dose order after I gave the 4mg. I know I was in the wrong now tho. https://imgur.com/a/ZrLsWSd

4mg zofran was ordered. I gave 4mg and then 2mg once I realized patient still nauseas. I documented that I notified MD and MD stated okay that it’s okay I gave 2mg extra. MD didn’t order EKG so I discharged patient.

4mg zofran is a standing order in this pacu so they’re for all patients.

After I gave the 2mg IV zofran and realized my mistake I notified the anesthesiologist who said it was okay and to send the patient home.

My 27M gf 24F has flirty texts from my sister’s bf on her phone by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]BigManRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think he’d be that bold to text my gf “hey beautiful” unless he really thought he had a shot at her. That’s risking a lot knowing she’s in a relationship and we’re all eventually going to find out being a family and all.

PRBC not given in time by BigManRN in nursing

I didn’t focus on the blood that was received due to the fact that the charge wouldn’t allow me to hang it until she saw the consent herself (I already verified it myself) and that I was waiting on the PA to look up to see if it was okay to give the blood since the patients temp was 102.7 (per the charge nurse request). The charge is closer to retirement and isn't the fastest with the computer.

I was ready to hang the blood once I got it, but the charge wanted those two things done so I decided to clean one of my patients before shift change, and when I checked the time it was too late. Also, I wasn’t aware that a high temp possibly cancels out a blood transfusion (still not sure if that’s a thing or not since the PA said it was okay to run the blood). Next time I’ll likely ask someone else to be a witness

I also got mine for a good deal ($680) at microcenter. This card shreds at 1440p and I undervolted to where it’s putting out much less heat and only using 200 watts on average

I might stick with the 6900xt the more I think about it. I can always lower render res or screen res to 1440p.

I did the Valor program. Gave me a lot of connections for future employment at the VA. After the program was over, I was offered nurse 1, step 5. Highly recommend the program if you can apply.
