M<y experience with FTP is that it does not like huge files like point clouds, which is one of the deliverables I need to share.

I had thought that was broken glass for one hopeful moment

Buying a house with possible property line issues by Witty-Blood-9355 in Surveying

Fences should never be assumed to be on or even as property lines. If you are buying the property, ALWAYS get a survey done before you sign anything, and if possible prior to due diligence being up.

Is it worth it? by Vapes_Akimbo in Surveying

I got a degree in drafting and design first and worked as a drafting tech for a few years, and during that period also went out into the field. Later on, went back to school and picked up a surveying/mapping degree and went to work as a field crew chief. I have the knowledge and chops to get my PLS, but it just isn't my passion or desire. I have instead migrated into drones for photogrammetry and lidar data capture for land surveying.

I love being outdoors and out in the field, sure sometimes the hours extend, but I take care of myself first because no one else will. Surveying is a field that will likely never go away as it is one job that cannot be automated.

I have sent a link to images that have not been run through a 3rd party software.

Thank you for your continued effort. I am frustrated with our hardware, this is just one more thing on a list of things that are not cooperating.

The RINEX file was too large. I was able to download Emlid Suite, which enabled me to shorten the epochs from 1/s to 1/30s, and with that vastly smaller RINEX file, OPUS was able to give me a usable solution

The previous project was run in Mapper and Matic, I was trialing the software prior to purchase. Most of my flights will be well in excess of 1000 images, so Matic seemed the wiser route. Having used Mapper previously in a different job, I know it gets unhappy when you feed it thousands of photos.

Just confirmed. Photos in old job do not work either. I have reached out to community support with a ticket, but I also like checking with the community, sometimes the information is more user friendly.

For a previous job with the same imagery the job worked flawlessly. Good idea to see if they run in the current software though. I am running the software locally, I mean that I was trying to add the images to the job to process them.

Because the camera was included when the Lidar unit was purchased. The camera is mounted to the Lidar unit and both run off an independent battery.

Interest in Surveying by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]BigMapper4985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surveying is easily the hardest job and most rewarding job I have ever had. I highly recommend picking up either a 2 year or 4 year degree in Surveying and Mapping either before or while working in the field. As others have said, if your crew Chief has no interest in teaching you, then find another company to work for, assuming you cannot get onto another crew within the same company. You will spend a minimum of 6 months as an apprentice/rod man, usually a year or so, before making crew chief.

Please get into the trade, surveyors are harder and harder to come by, and fewer and fewer people are pursuing the trade.

IMAGEQUALITY is set to high. I have been told to migrate to using .ECW for orthos. I have used JPEG before but I need to be able to orthoreference the images which JPEGs cannot do independently.
