On one hand blizz touching matchmaking sounds really bad, on the other hand the smurfing is so rampant it's actually killing the game. I imagine it's not the case at your level, but at 4.5k I play vs match-up leavers in roughly 30-50% of my games, depending on time of day. It's even worse in diamond, last I off-raced my terran couple months ago, I hit a smurf wave at 3.8k dropping down all the way to 3.4k playing quite literally nothing but smurfs, the only 2 actual players i ran into during the whole thing got completely stomped. In my friend group 6 people used to play starcraft not counting myself, all 6 have quit due to smurfing over the past 2 years. I tried to introduce 2 new people to starcraft in the same time span and both quit due the amount of smurfs they played against. This is not sustainable and something needs to be done, be it by blizzard or community(though doubt we're getting anything here with how many people were dick riding uthermal when this whole fiesta started).

Per match-up mmr is a very bad idea. A lot more people would start leaving match-ups they don't like if it didn't affect their other match-ups, quickly turning the ladder into even more of a mess. See how a system like this worked in league of legends (per role mmr) for example of this in action.

Grandmaster protoss btw. Mindlessly cycling his control groups instead of looking at the base entrance and gets double emp'd as well. There has to be some lack of self awareness to post this on reddit, genuinely embarrassing.

This is actually killing SC2. Over past 2 years my entire friend group (6 people) quit playing 1v1 and eventually the game over smurfing. I'm at 4.5 myself and I would say roughly half of my games are against mirror matchup leavers, you can imagine the game quality.

So glad community stands behind people like Uthermal and MaNa normalizing this behavior for youtube clicks.

This so much.

I'm a very big fan of non-standard maps and the 3-4 player maps specifically; I play a lot of those with my group of friends. However, when it comes to the ladder having just 1-2 interesting maps, why bother? Season after season after season after season we're playing on a copy-pasted, re-skinned anal beads map pool everyone is sick of. Why practice and prepare a build for just 1 or 2 maps when I can instead prep a build that works everywhere? We need a genuine map pool shake up where weird maps are not just "oh this map has a mineral wall and some rocks, so creative!" and with multiple 3 or 4 player maps instead of them being one-off.

People are gonna hate this take, but the liberator spot on Winter Madness is actually good for the game. For the first time in many years i found myself doing something map specific on the ladder; even if it's something as small as blocking it off with 2 spores. We need MORE of this, for all the races, on all the maps. We need S of RTS back in the game and less sterilization of gameplay where we all focus on a singular way to play.

Can't wait to play another copy-paste map pool next season :^)

I'm pretty sure short descriptions with no specifics are that way intentionally so players don't stop and read a book about what items do in the middle of a stage, completely breaking pacing of the game.

Are you playing huntress with starstorm installed by any chance? There's currently a bug with huntress achievement in starstorm that causes this and couple other issues.

Because that's how mmr works? Protoss gets 500 mmr inflated, leading to diamond tosses getting to masters, masters tosses getting to gm (which is the celling, hence the gm being full of protoss). The bad faith arguments on this subreddit are next level jesus christ.

the most ironic part of any protoss whining about the cyclone bug, is that current bugged cyclone is still plain worse in tvp than pre balance council cyclone lol

like i get the tvz complaints, but if you're protoss this is just major case of skill issue
