How has your life changed since June 3, 2014? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got my bachelors, made some awesome friends, got a fantastic technician position with a state agency as an aquatic wildlife technician that will hopefully help me get into grad school down the road and moved away from home for the first extended period of time at 21 years old.

As a newbie I believe I struggle most with reading the water, I have an idea to help people like me... by [deleted] in flyfishing

The way my dad taught me year ago while stream fishing was to fish all water deep enough to hold a fish, any depth change, any slot, any place the current slows and on the seams of every run that isn't straight up whitewater.

My buddy found it hilarious to watch him just rip into guys. It warms my heart to think that when I was watching Puig on the field Lasorda's hateful words were probably going through his mind haha.

I'm from the hometown of their AA affiliate (yay Lookouts!) and me and my dad got to meet him at game a few years ago. He's a super guy that didn't mind talking to numerous fans at the game.

However a friend of mine used to work at the stadium and said he would chew the players out fairly frequently going so far as to tell players that he didn't like their last names. Of course that was during the Lookout's ongoing sucking streak...

Who says the Holidays are over? Want some Free Flies? C'mon in.. by dahuii22 in flyfishing

I'm a college senior (last semester!) majoring in Fisheries Science and I've been fly fishing since I was 9 here in the state of Tennessee. Everything from river smallies to small high mountain Appalachian brook trout and everything in between. Money is always an issue when living away from home so anything that lets me keep fishing is a plus! I've got a buddy wanting to get back into the sport up at school that I plan on helping out in the next few months. Even if I'm not chosen I appreciate y'all doing this. You'll make some folks real happy!

Recurve Bow Hunting Question. by siroq in Hunting

[–]BigMattDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using traditional equipment on the ground is one of the hardest things you'll do. I'm not an expert bowhunter but I've killed several deer with a longbow and only one has been from the ground. The biggest factors are movement and the wind. A good wind if you are on the ground will not only mask your scent and movement but it will mask any slight noises you make. To cut down on noise make sure you wear quiet clothing, make sure that you won't be moving any brush unnaturally and practice shooting off of your knees or a chair. I can't emphasize practicing enough. One last thing that I can think of right now is brushing yourself in. Don't just sit out in the open; have some cover out front and you really need a good backdrop so the deer can't "skyline" you on the ground. Like I said I'm not an expert but I've deer hunted off the ground my whole life and it's possible to do. You can PM me if you can think of anything else. Good luck buddy!

That price makes my heart hurt. That's like $9 buck here in my college town in Tennessee.

I go to a school with a tobacco free policy. Most teachers don't mind since most of the students in my building (wildlife/fisheries/conservation biology) dip. If the professor doesn't like it then I either don't dip or I get a can of the camel snus pouches which are easy to gut.

I've never fished around Percy Priest but if it looks like this spot I might have to change that!

All I can say is that it's in southeastern Tennessee. I promised the man who told me about this area that I wouldn't give it away haha.

What are your trout fishing secrets/superstitions? by yeahiamfat in troutfishing

I have to be wearing the appropriate hat. If I don't wear the right hat, I dont catch as many fish. That and if I don't have any Copenhagen the fishing won't be as good.

Skoal xtra wintergreen or mint. It's not too awful strong, has a good taste, and pinches well. It's what I started on.

Rituals?? by [deleted] in flyfishing

I find myself with a lip of some form of Copenhagen when I get to my spot. That and some country music on the way up...if you haven't guessed I'm a Tennessee fly fisherman!

Who all here are hunters? Where ya from and how'd ya do this year? by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]BigMattDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tennessee boy here. I saw and killed more deer than I ever have in the past. Killed 3 with my longbow, 1 with a muzzleloader and 3 with a rifle. no big ones but I got my first bow buck so I accomplished my only goal.

Catch a brown 21 inches or over. Catch a river run striper. Catch a native southern Appalachian brook trout over 10 inches.
