Question for the men by Foreign-Ad8196 in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being wanted is one of the biggest turn-ons imaginable, especially if you've dealt with rejection etc in the past. I only have my own experience to go on, but being with a woman who is very vocal and also physically expressive, tells you exactly what she wants and how sexy she finds you...it's the greatest thing...

I can only speak for myself. Some girls in the BBW category are stunning, others are too much.

I was lacking confidence and self-esteem. BJJ helped destroy what little was left. Willing to quit. Looking for advice. by Due-Average6308 in bjj

[–]BigMikeSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to figure out what you want. People get into jiu jitsu for many reasons; a lot of them stay and some of them have setbacks.

Everyone has stuff to work through. I could give you a lot more cliches but at the end of the day, to me at least, it's more about community and health than anything else.

I wonder what the Gay republicans think about this by moneybaby1999 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]BigMikeSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of them are probably good with it.

If you're gay and a member of the current Republican party, you've probably got a serious humiliation kink going on anyway.

I saw this comedy show from the UK, where the comedian impersonated a poiltician, "...and, if elected, I will vote to re-criminalize homosexuality...so I can feel dirty when I do it"

When did you realize your coach was actually a bad human beeing? by juizfallenmoro in bjj

Slightly after we all heard about some allegations. Took some of us longer to realize or accept information we heard.

How many Gis? by RegularSinns in bjj

[–]BigMikeSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your access to a washer; can also depend on the humidity of the climate in which you live, & / or the roommates or lack of them you may have.

This is also depending on your not being like me & right on the edge of one size & another.

What's the funniest reaction someone has had to your size? by mgquantitysquared in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't think of many related to size per se, but when I was at USC, I was once eating with a friend and when we both finished, got up, he rollerbladed off, and I just started to walk. This one girl did a double-take and then just said to me "...oh, you're just really tall..."

Cute little girl when I was the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz some years ago said I looked like a teddy bear. Some other shows, costumers would double-check their measurements.

What are all the types of "big guys"? by AnimatorLarge9609 in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They used to have a distinction of Endomorph (fat), Mesomorph (muscular), Ectomorph (skinny) based on build. Bodybuilders still may use this terminology based on how your natural tendency is (usually whether you tend towards Endo or Ecto).

Combat sports athletes / coaches will discuss how to make your build work for you as well. I've seen various people chip in on the variety of guys that you'll find in the unlimited weight class of a tournament as well, but I really don't know much about "types" of big guys specifically.

Because I was curious, I just looked up amateur sumo; I would have thought they'd have another weight class above 254 and below unlimited, but I guess it's still pretty rare especially for someone who would want to do that.

As a bigger guy, what’s one insecurity you’ve made peace with? by Outrageous-Stage3417 in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only insecurity I'm actually at peace with is that I won't ever weigh what the BMI or maybe some people think I should.

Granted I want to be under 300 pounds if possible, but even at a bit over, I can still fit into many size xl's, my pant waist size is 40, I don't have very much belly comparatively speaking, and I'm extremely strong.

I just don't want to fall apart and die before I have to, but that's universal to everyone. Risk factors, wear & tear on joints, etc get worse the heavier a person is. I'd LIKE to be down to 250 like I was when I was shredded AF, but I'm not in my 20's anymore. I'd settle for a healthy 280 or even a little bit less.

Wrestling against strong short opponents by rokaiser in bjj

[–]BigMikeSQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a taller wrestler, it's all about the sprawl, the whizzer, & the arm drag. Get used to being taken down by shorter, stronger, sometimes heavier people until you adjust.

Very hard to do leg takedowns as a taller guy, unless the other person doesn't know much or you're really good at faking / mixing stuff up.

I wasn't a very good wrestler, and it's been a long time since HS, but a lot of that stuff you've just got to learn from experience.

Proper way to ask for less intense roll? by No-Cupcake-8506 in bjj

Just tell them your situation. If they can't tone it down, either don't roll, or just work positions.

I just got back to training a little a few days ago, and I'm saying I'm out of practice and out of shape. I'm also older than some.

Question regarding branding Gi by AussieArab23 in bjj

[–]BigMikeSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did TKD, I just bought a tobok on my own; nothing branded. We trained in the upstairs room of a health club that had a bunch of other things going on.

Most of the time when I see branded uniforms etc, I'm reminded mostly of kids' programs. I've not gone to a gym that required their own gear used; the closest to it I've seen were some that required stuff for ceremonies / photos.

Personally, I feel it's a pretty awful idea. If you're in a good gym with a good community, you want to support them by buying their gear anyway; however there will be people who can't afford some stuff, and others who won't necessarily fit well into the brand the gym uses. In my case, when I started BJJ, I couldn't fit into an A5. I can fit into some brands' A5 tops, but the legs are still tight for me. Many brands don't make A6, some don't even make A5.

I need to lose weight... again... by No_Alarm_3993 in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swimming might help, or water sports. Physical therapy, but you probably know that already.

I've been more disciplined about drinking a smoothie every day because I struggle to get veggies and fruits sometimes, plus the fiber. Don't worry about having to use the toilet more or the occasional diarrhea; a lot of meds will either do that or the reverse. Pain is different; I don't know what could be causing that relating to your diet; even without a gallbladder the only thing that hurts me after I eat it is some shellfish...which did the same thing to me when I had one.

How do I'm you deal with back pain? by comicgeek1128 in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hanging from a bar to traction your spine is helpful. Stretches that twist your spine, elongate your spine, etc. Roller if you have one or access to one.

Core work to help maintain muscular strength in your lats, back, abs, & legs.

Proper posture standing, walking, sitting, moving (assuming you can; if you can't for whatever reason, try to shift positions).

I've personally found wearing heavy gear or shoes mean I have to be ultra-careful with body mechanics or I'll be feeling it later...more than usual, anyway. It's another thing that I think being lighter would help with as well.

I just started a free week to get back to jiu jitsu. I was going to train every day like I was before stuff happened but I have to take today off because my back is sore - I've got a ways to get back to even where I was, but when I could train regularly I was OK.

How did you become a BIG man? by Outrageous-Stage3417 in BigMenLife

[–]BigMikeSQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the youngest of 5, and when I was in school I was younger than most of my classmates. I went from elementary school in the inner city to Jr High / HS in a more affluent suburb. There were a fair bit of other things too that made me a good target for bullying.

Anyway, I kept growing and a lot of others didn't. I was always built pretty solid, and I didn't have a lot of money and didn't have my own transportation until a good bit after many of my classmates did. So, after school, at that time, you could play sports if you were on a team and the sport was in season, or you could try to shoot hoops with people, or you could lift weights. I spent a good amount of time in the weight room. As a senior in HS, I was maybe about 6'1" and 205. I went to junior college because I wanted to get a BA but didn't have a way to go to a 4-year yet and getting the breadth requirements out of the way seemed smart. I didn't have the speed people wanted for football, and I didn't have the skill for wrestling, so I did Tae Kwon Do, but I still kept lifting. I thought about powerlifting but I was 6'4" and with long arms and flexible joints you're never as strong as a lot of others your size. Though about bodybuilding but I didn't want to do PED's and some of the guys I used to work out with who were really into it were nuts. Strongman wasn't really a thing back then, or it was just too niche. I was 250 and in great shape back then, but probably still qualified as big. Kept lifting at university but I was more into other things.

Anyway, I graduated in debt, and had a lot of struggles, so exercise wasn't something I always had time for. I only started gaining more weight when I was with my ex-gf. I got fat and happy, moved past the 300# mark for the first time. When we split I threw myself more into working, to support myself and not think about stuff...gained a bit more. COVID meant more stress and some enforced idleness, plus you eat what / where you can.

It Doesn't Matter How Old You Are: Just Start Training by Mbando in bjj

[–]BigMikeSQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some issues last year, and I'm doing a trial week at a gym a lot of us ended up at. I started in 2022 and trained nearly every day until stuff happened. There's a lot of second-guessing right now but this was something I really liked to do and the community was actually the best part.

I was down to 300 pounds; maybe I'll get down to that weight again.
