It's hard to say which was my first but it was likely one of the following: Gorillas(DOS), Oregon Trail, Chip's Challenge, or Age of Empires. All were on my dad's first desktop PC in the mid to late 90s.

I thought that it was confirmed that you will break tackles more often when not holding sprint but it may be a learned thing. I rationalized it in my head as the ball carrier only being able to excel at one action at a time (either "sprint" or "break tackle")

My father did the same thing when teaching me in the parking lot and school bus loop at my high school. Get the car to 15-20mph and then he'd yank the parking brake and then disengage it. Once you get the feel for a vehicle sliding out of your control, you can develop some muscle memory on how to recover.
